Set on the bustling Crown Street in Surry Hills, Nour is the brain child of the hugely popular Cuckoo Callay in Newtown. Taking a very successful crack at semi-formal dining, Nour centers around modern Middle Eastern food in a sharing environment.
PACIFIC OYSTERS 5ea
These gorgeous plump oysters were super fresh and adorned with a tart pomegranate margarita sorbet, mint and sumac, making this an incredibly delicious starter.
OX TAIL 19
These little meat packages were definitely an unexpected surprise!
Wrapped in charred vine leaves the balance between crisp and tender was made perfect. All sitting in a burnt onion dip, with puffed grains adding a delightful crunch.
OLD CITY MIX 18
Easily my favourite dish of the night and one I could have over and over again. The chicken was marinated in an incredible fragrant spice mix and tossed with target radishes, wrapped in a golden fried pastry. I’ll tell you one thing, I smashed this thing at lightspeed it was so good!
ARABIC LAMB TARTAR 23
An arabic spin on a favourite of mine, the lamb was spiced and highly aromatic. The quail eggs added a rich creaminess, while the pickled okra brought a nice sharp bite to the mix.
CHARCOAL OCTOPUS 27
Served with Yemenite bread, pencil fennel and olives, this octopus was everything that we wanted and more. Tender, sticky, crispy, with a nice hint of heat from the harissa.
WOOD ROAST SPICED SHORT RIB 500G 48
This beast of a dish was cooked so well, we basically lifted the bone out of the meat.
The succulent beef was infused in Arabic spices with roast carrots and garlicky toum béarnaise. This dish is phenomenal.
CAMEL MILK MOUHALABIEH 17
Now onto desserts! The fragrance of rose water mixed with the sharpness of rhubarb and the creaminess of camel milk made this one fantastic dessert!
MIDDLE EASTERN BOMBE ALASKA 16
This dessert was the bomb! No pun intended. The mixture of sticky smokey meringue and rich pistachio ice cream went perfectly with the caramelized banana bits.
All in all a fantastic meal was had at this hot new eatery. Great for any occasion, this place will shine for romantic dates, catch ups and even boasts a gorgeous private dining room for parties and large gatherings. With the pleasant service as good as the phenomenal food, this place is set up to be the next dining hot spot of Crown St.
