THE TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD & PAPI CHULO $19
Nestled in the uber trendy streets of Paddington, Tequila Mockingbird is doing fantastic things with modern day Mexican.
We started the day with these delightful cocktails, the perfect way to introduce a smashing meal to our tastbuds. The signature Tequila Mockingbird was a refreshing mix of Don Julio Blanco, St Germaine elderflower liqueur, jalapeño, lemon, agave. The pretty pink number was a fruity blend of Germana Soul cachaca, muddled strawberries, lime, basil, Monin strawberry, basil sprig.
White fish tiradito, pickled jicama, corn textures $18
We really liked this dish. It was different from most other ceviche dishes I’ve tried. The creaminess of the corn added a nice richness to the otherwise fresh and zesty fish. I also loved the little bit of crunch from the jicama.
Kangaroo tartare, black bean, aji panca $16
Well I can honestly say I’ve never had tartare of kangaroo, but boy was it delicious. The dish is almost like a spin on nachos except instead of minced cooked beef the deliciously red and juicy kangaroo meat comes in and wows your taste buds. The corn chips were the perfect platform to scoop it all up.
Peruvian causa potato, salt cod $16
What a delightful little bite. The causa was smooth like velvet, while the salt cod topping added a huge flavour punch. I would definitely order two of these.
Fried provolone, garlic mushrooms $24
What a dish! Honestly this is one NOT to share.
Gooey, creamy, with a earthy aroma and flavour of butter fried mushrooms. This just works so well.
Octopus, green chimichurri, pickled onion $26
Each mouthful more tender than the last, the octopus is cooked to perfection with a zingy chimichurri and the sharp pickled onion to tie it all together.
Jacks Creek tri tip (MBS 3+) $28
This was seriously melt in your mouth meat. The fat just renders so perfectly, with a nice hint of smokey char. Worth an order!
What a fantastic place for a weekend lunch. With great food and a buzzing atmosphere, Tequila Mockingbird showed it’s finest feathers and blew us away.
