Stitch Bar are located in the heart of the business district on York Street. Walk into a small lobby filled with Singer machines and make your way down the steep staircase, and you’re transported to another world. Comfortable booth style seating, tables and bars set you up for a night of fun, food and booze.
Now a boozy night on the town must always start with a cocktail, and I have a fetish for pineapple flavoured cocktails. So “Cuba Calling #2” for me! Pineapple, rum, lime, pineapple vinegar and Absinthe. Divine!
The first order of the day was the smoked hot wings – crispy wings, smoked and fried inhouse, tossed in Frank’s Hot Sauce and served with a cooling blue cheese sauce. Buffalo wings tend to go soggy after being tossed in sauce, but not these! They retained their crunchiness throughout, and there was a very nice level of heat in the sauce. Very delicious!
Pokes are all the rage at the moment and here was a poke done right! Chunky raw tuna tossed with green onions, soy, avocado and sesame, served with housemade hard shell tacos. The contrast between the crunchy taco shells and the fresh and light tuna was fabulous. One of our favourites for the night!
We then grabbed the hipster dog, a kransky dog served with kimchi, kewpie mayo, sriracha and topped with pork floss. A big fat juicy kransky, grilled perfectly so you get the skin pop when you bite in. Sooooooo good. And the tangy spicy kimchi that balances out the fatty snag – absolute perfection!
And what’s pub grub without a burger? Our burg of choice was the BLT. A juicy 100% Angus chuck and brisket beef patty, hickory smoked bacon, truss tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, pickles, mustard and chipotle. What a juicy burger! And massive too! And you haven’t had bacon until you’ve had this hickory smoked bacon – very meaty and very smoky. Delicious!
Dessert was a sugar glazed doughnut baked inhouse and topped with salty caramelised popcorn. That glaze was next level sticky! If you like your thick and sticky caramel, then this one has your name all over it!
Stitch Bar is the perfect destination for the mid week reprieve or the friday night out on the town. With friendly service, good solid food and drinks aplenty, you really can’t go wrong with organising a friendly gathering or work drinks at Stitch Bar. If nothing else, drop in and at least try the smoked hot wings (and a schooner or two!) – you can thank me later!
