Marcianos are the North Shore’s ‘go to’ for rustic, homestyle Italian fare. They pride themselves on serving authentic Italian food, just as they would make it at home. Owned and run by an Italian family, it really doesn’t get any more authentic than that!
We dropped into their Chatswood restaurant, which is located at ‘The District’ (Chatswood Interchange). With floor to ceiling windows bringing an abundance of light into the very family friendly restaurant, lunch or dinner can be eaten with an amazing unobstructed view of Chatswood.
Our poison of choice this evening was an Italian red and Italian beer. Naturally. Both went superbly with our starters, which upon being served we immediately tucked into.
When calamari is on the menu, we always order it, and Marcianos get it right. Calamari and thin slices of zucchini are lightly dusted with flour and then deep fried to crunchy perfection.
We also got the home-made Italian meatballs. This was one of the favourite dishes for the night. Fantastic flavour in the large meatballs, smothered in a delicious rich tomato sauce and some lightly toasted bread on the side to mop up the sauce. Lip smacking!
Another winner was the home-made potato croquettes. These were creamy, oozy, gooey and cheesy. Absolutely everything you want in a croquette filling, with a deliciously crunchy encasing. What a brilliant start to dinner!
Our first main was the ‘Tagliolini Marciano’, fresh home-made linguine style pasta with veal, cherry tomatoes, onion and fresh chilli. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. This dish is an absolute must order! The veal sauce is extremely rich and has so much depth of flavour, with just that perfect hit of heat.
For our second main, we obviously had to try a pizza. With a wide range of topping choices on offer, we decided to rate them on authenticity and went down the traditional route – margherita! And it stacked up. A soft and chewy crust with nicely charred edges, this pizza got our tick of approval!
We then wrapped up with their housemade baked ricotta nutella cake. Now everyone loves cheesecake, but coupled with nutella, that’s just a whole new level of joy! This was utterly decadent and a highly recommended dessert to wrap up a very enjoyable meal.
From the picture of Rocky Balboa adorning an entire wall, to the friendly Italian staff who serve you, at Marcianos, you can be guaranteed an authentic Italian experience in a family friendly environment. It is a very child friendly restaurant space, so next time the family is in need of some quality pizza and pasta, then head down to the Chatswood Interchange and pay Marcianos a visit.
