If you’re looking for a fantastic spot for dinner and drinks and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the CBD, then Firefly in Neutral Bay has you covered. Great food, great service and a pinot noir cellar of your dreams. Cocktails, craft beer and a wine wall featuring over 90 of the world’s best pinot noir offerings!
There’s an abundance of seating, both inside and outside, accommodating small groups as well as large. The ambience is very warm and inviting. Perfect for a large group gathering or for that romantic dinner for two.
We naturally started with some pinot noir. Haha, what else! 🙂 A French and an Aussie. Both were delicious and set the scene for some amazing food. We decided to go for their Deluxe Sharing Banquet. At $55pp, I can guarantee that you not only get delicious quality food, but you also get a very generous portion of everything. You will not leave hungry!
Whilst waiting for our banquet to start, we nibbled on some zucchini fries with aioli. This is a must order dish! Extremely crunch batter which contrasts beautifully with the soft and creamy zucchini. So very very delicious!
First up was the wild mushroom arancini. With porcini, truffle and mozzarella, this was a guaranteed winning dish. Flavours and textures that just can’t go wrong.
The fried camembert with pinot and cranberry relish was amazing. Oozy melted camembert and that amazing pinot and cranberry relish. Even if you don’t go with the banquet, I highly recommend this dish!
The duck pancakes, shallot and hoisin sauce was delicious. Succulent tender duck meat, thin pancake wrappers and a delicious sweet and rich hoisin sauce. Can’t go wrong with with duck pancakes!
The grilled haloumi with mint, watermelon, toasted almonds was a complete surprise. Can’t say I’ve had watermelon with haloumi before but not only did it work, but it worked brilliantly adding a lot of juiciness and freshness to the haloumi.
The pumpkin tortellini, sage and beurre noisette is another must order dish. Perfectly cooked pasta and an amazingly sweet and creamy pumpkin puree. So very delicious!
We then had beautifully seared Canadian scallops with morcilla and pickled pear. Really well cooked, soft and tender and a visually stunning dish too.
Another must order is the sliced beef fillet, buckwheat soba and asian mushroom dish. The beef is tender and delicious but the soba noodles and sauce are the highlights. So good!
Next was the roasted lamb rump, crushed minted potatoes and pea puree. Cooked to a very nicely pink medium, it was soft, tender and very flavoursome. A very hearty portion too!
The warm lentil salad with celeriac, mint, hazelnut and feta is a wonderful medley of textures and flavours. One that you’ll thoroughly enjoy if you have enough stomach space left! By this stage, it is quite likely that you will be in a food coma!
We then wrapped up with the Elvis Presley peanut butter parfait with chocolate ganache. Yes! Do yourself a favour and end on this high like we did. That peanut butter parfait was stunningly good!
Firefly is an amazing spot for a gathering with friends or a loved one. We dined on a Tuesday night and it was almost a full house. That tells a story. Good quality food, friendly service, reasonable prices and a fantastic wine selection. What more could you ask for?
