The Primus Hotel Sydney in the heart of the CBD is serving high tea in their beautifully designed lobby bar. With seating in the bar or lounge, it’s the perfect location for a girl’s day out or for a romantic afternoon treat.
With two menus to select from: ‘The Wilmot’ is the more traditional high tea, complete with crustless sandwiches, cakes and scones. The ‘G’N Tea’ has been designed for the gents who are after a more rustic experience. Think sliders, pies and toasties.
Both menus come with the premium option of including a glass of campers. Veuve Clicquot is always such an indulgent treat!
We went with the more traditional high tea menu ‘The Wilmot’. A beautiful multi-tier tray came bearing delicious sweet and savoury morsels.
Naturally, we started with some tea. Your everyday ‘English Breakfast’, as well as the very popular ‘African Solstice’. Both were fragrant and robust and the perfect pairing for high tea.
Our savoury selections were curried egg and cucumber on multigrain slice, pork and fennel sausage rolls, and smoked salmon, creme fraiche and lemon on grilled brioche. All were delicious, especially the curried egg crustless sandwiches!
Some of our favourite desserts included a fruit tart and passionfruit praline with popcorn mousse cake. Very rich and absolutely decadent!
One of the highlights of the high tea was the petit wagon wheel, which did feel very reminiscent of a wagon wheel, with the raspberry marshmallow. This was so delicious. As was the salted caramel fudge.
We then wrapped up in true high tea fashion. With scones of course! Lemon and white chocolate scones with whipped cream and rhubarb, strawberry and gin jam. Such a traditional dish, yet with a very modern and unique twist. We loved it!
High tea is the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends over a hot cup of tea and some delicious sweet and savoury treats. And in the fancy and classy setting of the 5 star Primus Hotel, it was the perfect lazy Sunday afternoon. Meeting up at a cafe is so ordinary these days. Next time you need to catch up with friends, why not meet up for high tea instead?
