“The Zeus philosophy is simple – to use time-honoured methods and family recipes to make real food, with integrity, taste and freshness” – Zeus Street Greek.
Since opening their first store in 2014, Zeus Street Greek has been busy taking the Philosophy of Food to the streets….and well everywhere it seems, with 10 locations open/opening soon in Sydney alone.
Today we’re here at their Rosebery store, close by to Black Star Pastry, Archie Rose Distilling Co, Da Mario and the 5th Earl. On top of their stores, they also offer home delivery to the surrounding suburbs. So now it’s easier than ever to eat a gyros from the comfort of your couch.
Feta Filo Fingers
To start off their new menu feast, we began with these hot feta cheese wraps. Indulgent honey & sesame drizzle complemented the super crispy filo pastries and soft feta cheese inside.
Classic hummus infused with roasted beetroot was so colourful and tasted heavenly. And you know nothing beats freshly made pita, piping hot straight from the oven.
Loux Lemon Juice & Fix Hellas Beer served chilled
Before we continue with the rest of the menu, I should mention that Zeus Street Greek has a range of drinks imported directly from Greece. For example, Souroti sparkling water, Loux Sour Cherry/Orange/Lemon juice, Fix Hellas beer, Mythos beer and 2013 Skouras Carbernet Sauvignon red wind from Pelponnese to name just a few.
The Athenian & Purple Greek
The Athenian is a gyros made of delicious wagyu beef kefta, tzatziki piccalilli mustard, chips and parsley. The Purple Greek is a gyros made of Zeus’s signature lamb, beetroot hummus, onion, chips and parsley.
Saganaki Salad & Yai Yia’s Chips
In Greek cuisine, saganaki is any one of a variety of dishes prepared in a small frying pan, the best-known being an appetizer of fried cheese. Saganaki salad here was a combination of cos, radish, chickpea, kefalograviera wafers, dressed with protein-rich tahini sauce. The crispy and thick chips are hand cut from locally sourced potatoes to guarantee freshness.
Salted Caramel Loukoumades
Balls of dough, deep fried until golden then drizzled with honey and sprinkled with crushed Metaxa (Greek liqueur based on brandy blended with wine and flavourings) toffee praline. These delicious mouthfuls are impossible to resist, especially when served straight from the hot pan.
“Socrates… Plato… Aristotle… These are a few of our forefathers. When we look back at their ancient wisdom we donʼt see the past, we see the future. A place where strangers are loved with a generosity of spirit, and where kindness is served up for all to share” – Zeus Street Greek.
