Smoking Panda could be described as having lunch with an old high school friend who went to study abroad in China for a few years – it’s a familiar conversation with the addition of Asian adventures and a couple of drinks.
This small bar is located upstairs and has chill vibes with a detailed oriental decor, perfect for a couple of cocktails with mates. Service was lovely and attentive.
Pork Doughnuts – served with sweet and sour sauce
These tasted exactly how pork doughnuts should taste. The batter was lovely, crispy, wasn’t overbearing the succulent pork and perfect for smothering in the tangy sweet and sour sauce. I was a really big fan of these and would definitely return for some more.
Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings
Bao down to the Pork Soup Dumplings, heh, geddit? These delicate and thin dumplings hold together the pork and its juices, oh so well. They also have $1 dumplings on Tuesday and I can’t wait to return to have more of these. Dumplings include: Pot Stickers, Chicken Dim Sim, Prawn and Chive Dumplings, Scallop Dumpling and Vegetable Har Gow.
Duck Spring Rolls
Crispy duck rolls with plum sauce. These rolls were indeed crispy but I found these spring rolls lacked the rich duck flavour I was looking for.
A daiquiri with white run, dry cherry liqueur, fresh grapefruit and lime juices. This drink would suit those who are a big fan of grapefruit.
A devilishly delicious drink that combines sweet, salty, spice – mixing Pampero Blanco rum, Poire William liqueur, fresh pineapple juice, cinnamon and chilli.
Apple jack, crème de péche and lime juice. This was extremely simple and quite possibly one of my favourite cocktails ever.
Spiced Pearl Bellini
Pear, spices and prosecco. I also enjoyed this one for the bubbles.
Panda’s signature – sweet, sour and smoky with Drambuie, Bulleit Bourbon, fresh lemon juice, ginger and spiked lemons. Delicious!
