“OUR PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE. GOOD FOOD + COFFEE, DONE WELL, CONSISTENTLY…” and boy do they stick to it!
Barista & Cook have shot to instant popularity within weeks of their opening, and after having a meal there, there was no doubt as to why. From a gorgeous interior, a trendy location, and (most importantly) phenomenal food and coffee, this place seems to have the whole package done right.
Cold Drip $6
With a gorgeous display of the cold drip coffee apparatus smack bang in the middle of our communal table it would have been stupid of me not to order a cold drip coffee. I’m happy to say the experience was very rewarding.
The coffee has all the flavour with none of the bitter acidity of regularly made coffee. There was a delightful complexity to each sip that was satisfyingly refreshing with a smooth syrupy finish.
Grass Fed Cheese Burger $19
This burger had a class to it that was very attractive to me. No triple towers of meat or cheese. Nothing too overdone. Simple and perfect. The meat was soft, moist and tasty, as was the bun. The ingredients all worked perfectly. Special mention goes to the generous smearing of bacon jam, that tastes even better than it sounds. Definitely a must!
The Chemex is a perfect wash down for the burger with it’s light and clean taste. What I find really interesting about a Chemex is how the flavour changes as it progressively cools, never allowing your tastebuds to get tired of it. Delicious!
Southern Fried Chicken $19.5
Fried Chicken has taken Sydney by storm and it’s no wonder with dishes like this. The crispy outer layer is spiced to perfection with a pleasant crunch to it. The boneless chicken inside is tender and juicy and made even better with a good splodge of chipotle mayo. Accompanying this was a side of sweet potato salad, adding a fresh crunch to the mix.
Mango Smoothie & Oreo Biscuit Smoothie
These smoothies were perfect to accompany our delicious food. The Mango Smoothie was a blended concoction of mango, raspberry, chia, yoghurt and coconut water. The fresh flavours really complemented our food especially the spice in the chicken. The Oreo Smoothie was pure indulgence, a cheeky pleasure nobody should miss out on.
Bacon and Egg Milk Bun $9.0
My favourite dish of the day was this beautiful milk bun filled with a fried egg, crispy bacon, BBQ chipotle chutney and fresh snow pea leaves. The soft bun makes all the difference as everything just meshes exactly how you want it to.
We had an absolutely delightful meal at Barista & Cook. The buzzing atmosphere and outstanding service were one of many ticks on our list. We will definitely be coming for a return visit.
