The ULTIMATE TIP TOP Sandwich Challenge: SWEET or SAVOURY?

Remember the feeling you had as a kid when you opened your lunch box in the school playground to find a soft, freshly made sandwich to demolish? We certainly do. The smell of that fresh sliced bread wafting up with all manner of ingredients from a gourmet BLT, to a humble veggie or jam sandwich, it’s the stuff of miracles, and to this day I’m filled with nostalgia every time I open up a bag of Tip Top bread.

With this in mind, Luke and I have decided to create our ultimate lunch box sandwich, we only have one problem – our ideas of this ultimate sandwich are totally different. So we’ve decided to put it to you, our loyal fans and passionate foodies. Which is the tastiest, the most mouth watering, THE ultimate sandwich!

CONTENDER NUMBER 1 – THE SWEET INDULGENCE

TIP TOP Sandwich: THE SWEET INDULGENCE

Contender number one is a beast in its own right, but this beast is a true sweet talker. For something as special as this we had to bring out the big guns and use Tip Top Cafe Raisin Toast. The sheer thickness of the slices are indulgent enough but add to that an aromatic spiced raisin filled dough that’s 30% fruit and there’s no doubt left!

What You’ll Need (serves 4)

  • Tip Top Cafe Raisin Toast
  • Choc-Hazelnut spread
  • 2 large eggs
  • Dash of milk
  • Tbsp Vanilla Essence
  • Strawberries (quartered)
  • Marshmallows
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Butter
  • Choc Balls

How You’ll Do it

1. In a bowl whisk the eggs, milk and vanilla essence together, then dip 3 slices in the egg mixture ensuring that every little inch is covered.

2. In a hot pan, melt some butter then fry the dipped slices until they are cooked through and golden crisp.

3. Put a handful of marshmallows in a bowl and microwave for 10 seconds until melted. Start with one of the fried bread slices, lather with choc-hazelnut spread and add the melted marshmallow, sprinkle with 1/3 of the strawberries. Place the second slice and lather it up good with the choc-hazelnut spread then add another 1/3 of the strawberries. Finally place the last slice on top, again add a good splodge of choc hazelnut spread.

4. Add a large spoonful of ice cream followed by the rest of the strawberries.

5. Sprinkle with smashed choc balls

CONTENDER NUMBER 2 – THE BACON, EGG AND AVO BEHEMOTH

TIP TOP Sandwich: THE BACON, EGG AND AVO BEHEMOTH

This triple decker beast of bacon, egg, cheese, avo and onion is the heart and soul of a savoury lover. The decision to use Tip Top Sunblest Soft White Thick was an easy one, with it’s soft pillowy slices perfect for holding all those ingredients in addition to that great taste we’ve all enjoyed for years, was a winner for us!

What You’ll Need (serves 4)

  • Tip Top Sunblest Soft Thick White (toasted or fresh)
  • 4-8 rashers of bacon
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 avocado (mashed)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 slices of cheese
  • 1 small onion (caramelized)
  • BBQ or Tomato Sauce (optional)

How You’ll Do it

1. Scoop out all your avo in a bowl and mash it up with a pinch of salt and pepper. Take your bottom layer of bread (toasted or fresh) and give it a good spreading of butter followed by a layer of half the mashed avocado then a dollop of the caramelised onions.

2. In a pan, fry your bacon rashers to your desired crispiness followed by your fried egg. Layer half the bacon with one egg on top followed by a slice of cheese.

3. Take your middle slice of bread and butter it both sides and place it on top. Repeat the process with the rest of the ingredients, drizzle with BBQ or Tomato Sauce as desired.
