Finding good ramen can be quite a challenge if you don’t know where to look. Well look no further than Yasaka Ramen smack bang in the Sydney CBD. Priding themselves on making the finest and traditional ramen in town, the key is in the details, with the talented chefs going so far as to handmake their own noodles.
Ikayaki (Squid Pancake) $8.80
This local speciality of Osaka is a mixture of fresh squid and hand kneaded dough then flash barbecued to give it a warm crispness. The juicy squid mixed with the dense dough made for an excellent partnership in taste and texture. Finished with a generous drizzle of BBQ and mayo sauce. Perfection!
Karage Set $22.50
This 18 piece board of crispy fried chicken is heaven on a board. Served plain, chilli and sweet chilli, you get the best of every bite. The pieces themselves are coated in an irresistibly crunchy and flavoursome coating while the chicken inside is unspeakably soft and juicy. Perfect to share with drinks.
Complementing our spicy chicken was this delicious Nigorisake. With a fruity note and a mild sweet and soru flavor, this was easy drinking (far too easy).
Mashi Mashi King Ramen $36
The King is here! What a whopping plate of goodness. This behemoth of a ramen comes packed full of delicious handmade noodles floating in a rich tonkatsu broth. Adorning this is a mound of mouth watering chashu pork, soft boiled eggs, cabbage and a thick slab of pork belly. Not for the faint hearted, but so worth it!
Pulled Pork Steamed Bun
A special treat from the chef that’s not even on the menu yet (shhhhhhhhhhhhhh). Gloriously full of flavour this was like eating a meaty cloud of goodness. The meat had a perfect hint of sweet and spice while the bun held it’s airy texture well.
Tori Paitan Ramen $16
Now this was new for me! The broth was a super rich creamy chicken concoction that fills your belly with warmth like no other. The decent sized bowl is home to perfectly cooked noodles, soft boiled eggs and a couple of slices of house made chicken loaf. Very unique and very tasty!
What a fantastic meal in a fantastic place. The sheer quality of food, service and atmosphere have warranted many a return trip from us.
Definitely worth checking out for an unforgettable feed.
