Situated on the corner of Pitt St Redfern, the recently refreshed Tudor and local pub offers a great gathering place for locals and visitors alike. A rustic feel can be gathered from the name and the premises itself, but quite surprisingly the interior is quite modern and spacious.
“The Tudor’s refresh fits right into the urban overhaul we’re seeing in Redfern at the moment,” says Chef Nikki. “The new kitchen and menu will surprise locals in a good way, creating a brand-new community hub for those in the area. But we’re not trying to push the boundaries too far, rather we’re here to deliver favourite pub classics that our customers love and can rely on”.
Food wise, the menu is quite up to date also in reference to current trends and there are daily specials to offer more variety to patrons. We were recommended the Crispy Skin Salmon as well as the Black Angus Beef and the daily special, which was Prawn and Mango Salad.
As can be imagined, this salad was extremely refreshing and light. The mixture of the sweet summer fruit with the fresh seafood, created the perfect accompaniment to the mains. Everything was fresh and bursting with flavour on the plate. Very impressed with this offering.
The Crispy Skinned Tasmanian Salmon was again on the same page as the salad. Fresh, vibrant and very delicious. The Salmon was very soft and broke apart very easily. Lentils were a great choice to accompany the fish, as it was quite moreish and soaked up the oils. We particularly enjoyed this dish, as the combination worked well together and it was immensely tasty.
The Black Angus Steak served with the traditional fries and salad. The steak itself was on the chewier side, but was very flavoursome. Loved the marinate, as it was quite zingy and summery. The fries were standard thick cuts, whilst the salad was actually quite interesting. The dressing was slightly spicier and the vegies were very fresh and crunchy.
2 mock tails were consumed. A Strawberry and lychee as well as a Orange and raspberry. Both were surprisingly not as sweet as they looked, and we finished both in no time.
Overall, it is safe to say that The Tudor Hotel is definitely a hidden gem of Redfern and the perfect destination for a long relaxing lunch.
