Located in Surry Hills, Keg and Brew is a fusion of the standard Australian pub and southern hospitality. The menu ranges from the grill, burgers and their signature dishes with a tempting selection of sides.
Black Angus Rump (Townsville QLD) and American Mustard
The rump was served medium rare as requested, alongside mushroom sauce chips and salad. For presentation, using a board was appealing but it lacked practicality. As well, the mushroom sauce would have looked more appealing served in a separate small jar but it was still enjoyable.
Chipotle Smokey Pork Ribs
I enjoyed the smokey chipotle house marinated ribs served with fennel slaw, fries and chipotle romesco. The ribs were tender, full of smokey flavour but not quite falling off the bone yet. The romesco provided a great kick of nutty spicy flavour. The accompanying fennel salad was light and crunchy, good for cutting through the meat.
Baked Mac and CheeseÂ
I was really looking forward to the baked mac and cheese. The dish had a generous amount of cheese and a great texture, but lacked flavour and we found ourselves adding a lot of salt to compensate for it.
In summary, Keg and Brew is an easy access traditional pub with a spicy South American kick. There are a few small easy tweaks that could be implemented in the kitchen for a greater experience but Keg and Brew has a lot of potential.
