On the 28th November 2015, it will be ZUMBARON DAY!
After a three year hiatus (last Zumbaron Day was 2012), Adriano Zumbo will be bringing back ZUMBARON DAY to make available some weird, wonderful and exciting flavours, catering to all sorts of taste buds.
Two of Zumbo’s stores – his South Yarra and The Star – will be creating over 50 flavours of macarons (or Zumbarons as they are called) including new and old flavours, plus some limited edition ones as well.
We were lucky enough to get a preview of what’s to come.
With decorations including this awe-inspiring Zumbaron tree, featuring over 50 different flavours, you too will be immersed into what Zumbaron Day is all about.
Cinnamon donuts Zumbarons – exactly what the name implies but in a delicate body holding a soft creamy filled center. These may not look soft and fluffy, have a hole in the middle or coated with cinnamon powder, but they sure do taste like the real thing!
Some interesting flavours leading towards the savory side.
At first I was hesitant in trying these Laksa Zumbarons. A soup dish made into a dessert? My initial reaction from taking a bite of this was “confusion”, the taste was exactly like a Laksa (not super strong, similar to a mild and savory laksa) but held together in a Macaron shell. If you’re a daring person, with a love for laksa, this Zumbaron may be the one for you.
Walking through the rows of Zumbaron’s stacked in mountains, this one caught my eye.
Having an addiction to the Bounty chocolate myself, I eagerly grabbed one (maybe 2 -3) and consumed it at the speed of light. I didn’t see any chocolate coating on this at all (just blue and white), but somehow the taste was spot on. Magic!!
With over 50 flavours, you can’t even imagine what Adriano can come up with.
‘Green Curry’, curiosity got the best of me and I had to try this one just to see what it’s alla bout. Surprisingly, these Savory Zumbarons seem to have a balanced taste, representing the flavours extremely well.
Adriano Zumbo, the great man himself was here to showcase some of his delicious experiments, which will be dished out on Zumbaron Day.
He was very secretive with what was planning to come, all we saw was a deep fryer, caught a glimpse of him putting some bacon in the fridge below and a bag of potato crisps right next to him.
“Epic Meal Time”, Macaron with Potato Crisp, Chorizo, Cheese, Beef Patty, deep fried in batter and wrapped with bacon with JD (Jack Daniel) Sauce on top.
If you think you know your Macarons, this is a completely different ball game. With a crispy fried outside and meaty interior plus a dollop of smokey bourbon sauce, you may forget you’re jonesing for a dessert #GetInMyBelly
Those who like to recall their childhood memories, the Lolly Gobble if for you. It’s like having two meals in one. Popcorny and Marcarony is how I can explain it, like a pair matched in Macaron Heaven. The name certainly strikes true as these things were #TheBomb!
Zumbo will be popping up at both stores on the day to keep an eye on proceedings and pose for a selfie or two.
He will be appearing at the South Yarra patisserie from 8-10am and the Star patisserie from 3-4pm on Saturday the 28th November. Drop by and say hi!
