New Food, New Atmosphere.
The new MLC Centre Food Court has undergone a massive $11 million redevelopment, introducing 11 new retailers and revamping 5 existing. With everything from fish & chips, dumping’s, crepes and salad’s, not to mention Neil Perry’s Burger Project (opening Novemeber 2015) the new MLC Food Court has hit new heights creating a unique ‘food-mosphere’ that caters perfectly to the bustling lunch culture of the CBD.
“The range of premium food selections, which now includes The Burger Project, is changing how CBD workers engage with this precinct,” Mr Burgess, GPT’s Head of Investment Management for Office said.
“With the MLC Centre’s convenient city location and impending major retail redevelopment, it’s the perfect site for us to expand the brand” Neil Perry said, who has been on the lookout to open other key sites around Australia since opening his first Burger Project at World Square last October.
In addition, MLC have announced a new 1000 sqm boutique IGA supermarket opening late 2015, which will open beneath the MLC Centre’s new food court.
“IGA Romeo’s Food Hall will be tailored to the needs of locals and includes a cheese bar with a resident connoisseur, a bakery that produces fresh bread and a premium meat section, catering to discerning foodies. Whether shoppers are looking for quality take home meals, everyday grocery lines, health foods or fresh produce, we guarantee convenience and competitive prices,” said Joseph Romeo, store owner of IGA’s Romeo’s Food Hall.
Considering we both work in the city, we’re pretty stoked by all the changes MLC are making. The new food court offering’s include the likes of Lok Lok Dumpling Bar, schnitzel specialists Schnitz, crêpe-and-coffee newcomer Bonjour Crêpes, Sumo Salad’s Green Label concept, Costi’s Famous Fish Co, Top Juice and the Turkish-accented Gozleme Co.
We took the liberty to try some of our favourite stores and weren’t disappointed. It’s great to see a a food hall with such a multicultural selection of quality food that’s quick, fresh and downright delicious.
Check out our top picks:
Made from some of the finest grade flour in France, these crepes were to die for! Our favourite had a tasty combo of gooey cheese, rosemary potato, bacon and caramelized onion. All folded together in a neat square, the skill of the crepe master really shines through the paper thin batter that literally melts in your mouth.
There’s nothing better than a crisp and tender schnitty. We all know it. It’s clearly why there were so many people lining up infornt of Schnitz. They know Schnitzel at an almost intimate level which I, as a serious foodie, respect. Our picks for a tasty lunch were the Garden of Eden Wrap and the Gourmet Mediterranean Salad. Both were filled with gloriously fresh fare and zesty dressings, then finished off with a very generous amount of that excellent chicken schnitzel. It’s the perfect balance of guilty and healthy pleasure.
Lok Lok Express
If it’s YUM CHA on the go that you’re after, then Lok Lok Express can fulfill all your needs. The steamed Prawn and Chive & Prawn Dumplings were freshly steamed and packed full of delicious chunks of fresh seafood. For something more substantial the Chicken & Prawn Wonton Noodles were an excellent belly filler with a clear savory broth that’s warm and comforting.
The Gozleme Co.
For a sweet treat to finish everything off, we couldn’t go past the Nutella Rush. Made fresh and to order, the fluffy dough is thickly spread with heaps of Nutella, then topped with fresh cut strawberries and sprinkled with icing sugar. They also have a large selection of delectable baklava’s ranging from traditional pistachio to chocolate. Heaven.
