Bao Stop made a splash at the Night Noodle Markets and since then, the bao has established a well deserved permanent spot in the Sydney food scene.
Bao Stop specialise in Taiwanese and Chinese street food and they’ve recently setup a pop up at the “On Tap” grounds in Drummoyne.
With plenty of street parking and public transport literally at it’s doorstep, it’s conveniently located in a wide open space (with enclosed fencing so the kiddies can run around!).
When we dropped in for a bite, we were treated to their best selling sweet potato fries with their Bao Stop signature chilli mayo, chives and roasted peanuts. Hands down the best sweet potato fries we’ve had yet. Crunchy crunchy crunchy! Then you get a hit of sweetness and then the yummy mayo. This is an absolute must order. They also do special fries and on our day, it happened to be crispy skin peking duck over the top of hot chips with a liberal spread of peking (hoisin) sauce. Yay! Peking duck! So good!
Their bao offerings are: Braised Pork Belly Bao Gua Bao – braised pork belly topped with Bao Stop’s peking sauce, fresh coriander, roasted peanuts, pickled mustard greens and Taiwanese mayo. Fried Chicken – Taiwanese fried chicken topped with red sugar chilli jam, carrot, spring onion and Bao Stop’s signature chilli mayo. Fried Peking Duck Gua Bao – Crispy skin peking duck, crisp cucumber with spring onion and peking sauce. Fried Tofu Gua Bao – fried tofu, coriander and pickled mustard greens with a peanut and miso sauce and crushed sesame walnuts.
Wowsers! Their signature pork belly was of course brilliant. However, our favourite was definitely the chicken. Who can go past good old fried chicken eh? Especially when it’s topped with an amazing chilli jam. This is seriously next level and a must order!!
We also thoroughly enjoyed the duck. Everyone loves duck (and it’s apparently healthy so that’s good enough for me!), and with their signature peking sauce, it takes those flavours to the next level. The tofu was pretty awesome too, and one for the vegetarians/health conscious/tofu lovers out there!
The friendly team at Bao Stop are ready to serve you Sydney’s best baos. The uber soft bao is the perfect vehicle for their amazing fillings. Brioche is so yesterday! Bring the family in for a casual and relaxing bao feed. Or drop in with your mates – it’s BYO from 5pm!
