The burger phenomenon has swept through Sydney in a flurry of monstrous high top buns dripping in intense and unique flavours and ingredients. But what happened to the good old school Aussie burger? That simple and delicious burger that doesn’t hide behind gimmicks or ridiculous fillings? Well, I’m happy to say we found it, as one of the Ibis Kitchen’s newest menu option. The Boomer Burger!
This beast of a burger is everything you ever needed between two toasted sesame seed buns. Fresh lettuce and tomato accompany sweet beetroot slices (AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE), cheese and a smokey BBQ sauce which all go hand in a hand with a moist and juicy Angus beef patty. To say this was drool-worthy would be an understatement, and I was blown away that all this was from, not a Surry Hills burger joint but a chic and friendly airport hotel restaurant. Alongside the burger is a generous basket of insatiably crunchy fried chips and onion rings. All this for $14 is an absolute bargain. Definitely value for money.
On top of this hearty burger we managed to sample a couple of sweet treats from the Ibis Kitchen’s delicious dessert menu. The Sticky Date Pudding was moist and fluffy, smothered in a rich butterscotch sauce, while the Eton Mess was as tasty as it was vibrant with heaps of fresh strawberries, passionfruit, bananas, meringue and chocolate twigs. All desserts are made in house by the talented team in the kitchen.
If by chance you want to step out of the restaurant and into a bed, the Ibis Airport offers great value accommodation in it’s convenient location, perfect for visitors arriving or leaving the airport, as well as an ideal base to explore Sydney.
The Ibis Sydney Airport has 200 rooms, each equipped with the Ibis ‘Sweet Bed’ (fully designed and tested to offer a luxuriously comfy experience), air conditioning, shower ensuite, LCD TV with Foxtel, fridge, opening windows, iPod docking station, Wi-Fi access, and tea and coffee facilities.
And when you want to pop back out of your cosy bed the next morning, the Ibis Kitchen offers buffet breakfast daily with breakfast options available from 4.30am to 12pm.
