Over the years, Danks Street has certainly made a name for itself on the Sydney dining scene providing a haven for hungry diners to feast on exemplary food and drink. Recently joining it’s ranks is the trendy and chic Beccafico Bar & Trattoria.
It’s all about a stylish and relaxed atmosphere mixed with affordable meals.
Air dried pork sausage with grissini $12
We started with a traditional and tasty pre-dinner treat. The salami was surprisingly soft and melted in a delicious savoury mouthful. The grissini were the perfect accompaniment adding a nice crunch.
Vodka Apple $12 & Lillet Blanc $8
While waiting for the more substantial food to come out we entertained ourselves the best way possible. With alcohol! The fresh apple juice was sweet and tart blending well with the vodka and mint. The Lillet Blanc, an aperitif wine from France, boasted sweet and refreshing hints of citrus and was excellently served on ice with a thin slice of lime.
Kingfish carpaccio with fennel, grapefruit and mint $20
A vibrant dish full of fresh, zesty and refreshing flavours. The sweet tang from the grapefruit really complemented the delicious slices of fresh kingfish, as did the peppery radishes.
Knife diced Wagyu beef with eshallots, capers, parmigiano and balsamic vinegar $22
I’m a sucker for a tartar and this one had me hook, line and sinker. The delicate pieces of hand cut wagyu were beautifully tender soaking up the sweet sharp taste of the balsamic. The generous shavings of parmigiano cheese was very welcomed, adding a strong, sharp umami flavour to the meat.
Paccheri with oxtail ragu and celery leaves $24
One of my favourite pastas, these wide and short tubes were excellent at trapping the rich tomato sauce and delicate tender oxtail. The celery leaves add an enormous amount of fresh flavour to wake you up from the rich hearty sauce.
Roasted cauliflower, pangrattato, pinenuts and herbs $12
A delicious side to accompany our main, the crispy florets were sprinkled with a fragrent mix of herbs.
Braised lamb shoulder sauteed cavolo nero and black garlic puree $29
A very generous serving of tender mouth watering lamb. The meat soaked up all that wonderful flavour from the jus making it incredibly tender. My favourite part of the dish was the black garlic puree which has a delicious caramelised flavour.
Doughnuts served with chocolate and Cointreau sauce $14
Last but not least were these adorable little Italian doughnuts (or zeppole). Crispy and golden brown, the insides are soft, fluffy and steaming hot. This was absolutely divine, especially dipped in the boozy chocolate sauce.
From the excellent and friendly service, to the stunning and delicious food, Beccafico is a very welcomed addition to the Waterloo dining scene, serving traditional Italian in a modern environment.
