Tucked out back and away from the hustle and bustle of King Street, Newtown, The Bank Hotel’s beer garden is a big favourite with locals and visitors alike. Open yet still comfortable and intimate, we made our way down to enjoy a nice spot of lunch.
Hot mead to warm the soul. Not usually a fan of anything that has cloves in it, this actually wasn’t bad. The amber liquid was sweet warm and spicy for the chilly afternoon.
Sticky Lamb Ribs $16
Sticky, sweet, meaty, messy, fantastic! The meat was falling off the bones and smothered in a delicious BBQ sauce. Served with a fresh and crunchy radish slaw and zesty lemon yogurt.
BBQ Duck Sausage Rolls $13
So good I classify these as “Not For Sharing’. Everything about these were excellent. The flaky golden pastry, the soft and flavoursome meat, the sharp HP sauce. All of it the perfect food for a lazy and boozy lunch.
BBQ Pulled Pork Burger
Get a load of this. Pulled pork is easily my favourite meat. So soft and oozing with flavour, I loved how soft the bun was, making the crunch from the red cabbage even better. Served with a side of chips this burger alone is enough to satisfy even the hungriest of diners.
King Crab Linguine $24
I actually feel a little guilty because I didn’t expect much from this dish being it’s in a hotel. Boy was I wrong! The pasta was perfectly al dente making great use of the simple, chilli, garlic, rocket, and lemon flavours. The crab meat was plentiful and sweet, making this a top notch pasta dish indeed.
The Bank also does a weekly Sunday Roast, with sizzling meals crisping over hot coals. The delicious smell of the roasting meat permeates throughout the garden.
Whether you’re sharing a cocktail jug in the sun or sipping on a craft beer, the Bank Hotel is a great spot whatever the weather.
