Opened since December 2014, Plateia ‘Where friends meet’ is located in the heart of Potts Point, only a 2 minute walk from Kings Cross train station and not too far from the iconic Coca Cola sign. They specialise in traditional and authentic Greek food and is a fantastic place to grab a quick feed on the go or to dine with friends and have a good feast.
As the name states, ‘Where friends meet’, you’ll definitely get that welcoming vibe as you enter the restaurant and greeted by friendly restaurant owner Pamela and Chef Nikko and Shavaun. The restaurant is clean and has a rustic, modern and wooden design throughout. Greek music was playing in the background and made our dining experience fun and one to remember.
You’re able to BYO with no charge and Plateia will soon introduce their Greek beers to their menu. You have the choice to either dine inside or outside, though inside the restaurant has limited space and seating available. Chef Nikko was very down to earth and has been living in Greece for over 40 years, giving us insight to traditional Greek food. Plateia also offers delivery services though popular apps like Delivery Hero, Menulog and EatNow.
Gyros Pita ($9.95)
Choose between marinated chicken, pork or lamb that’s been slow cooked on a rotisserie, add a handful of chips, tomato, red onion and tzatziki sauce and wrap it all up in traditional Greek style pita bread.
What made this different from your traditional kebab wraps was the addition of seasoned chips. A clear example of the popular hashtag “Foodbeast” and a tasty Gyros that will definitely fill you up.
Mixed Grill ($26.00)
When the Mixed Grill came out, we were stunned by the portion size. Supposedly a serving for one but could easily be shared between 2 people. A massive portion of 250 grams of shaved meat of your choice, 3 Souvlaki skewers, chips and traditional Greek style pita bread.
The locals seem to love this joint, and for good reason. With huge portion sizes and quality food this place is undoubtedly value for money.
