The Gantry Restaurant & Bar, The Rocks


The Gantry Restaurant & Bar is one of Sydney’s latest additions to the food scene. Located in Dawes Point, the restaurant has waterfront views over Walsh Bay with modern décor and cozy ambience. The head chef, Chris Irving who used to work with Gordon Ramsay and also as David Beckham’s personal chef – so naturally we were intrigued! So when The Gantry decided to host a monthly wine dinner together with Lowe Wines and Black Star Pastry, we jumped at the chance!


Arriving at Pier One Sydney harbour, we were greeted inside the luxurious lobby where we waited for dinner to start.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFarm fresh crudité with house made smoked baba ganoush, hummus, and taramasalata. Served fresh with Blackstar bread and Pepe Saya butter.

The dinner starts with a platter of vegetables, bread and dips. The sparking merlot was made from organically grown grapes from Mudgee and proved to be a perfect starter.

Wine choice : 2013 Bobby Lowe Organic Sparkling Merlot

Oh my….! Creamy and delicious with the added crunch from chestnuts, it was such a perfect dish for a cold, rainy night. I regretted that we didn’t ask for seconds.

Wine choice: 2011 Nullo Mountain Chardonay


OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPetuna Sea Trout Wellington in Blackstar puff pastry with tamarind and warrigals, picked fennels and golden beetroot.

This is a definite show stopper, good looking and so tasty. It was a beautiful end to the mains. Now on to the desserts by the Black Star Pastry team.

Wine choice: 2014 Headstone Primitive Organic Rose.

This dessert has Black Star Pastry written all over it with their signature combo of pistachio and rose jelly, the taste was light and sweet with subtle lemon tanginess.

Wine choice: 2013 Nullo Mountain Pinot Grigio

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMeringue, white Valrhona chocolate mousse with raspberry gel and black sesame paste.

I’m a big fan of chocolate and this Meringue White Chocolate mousse did not disappoint me. The cake’s texture was silky smooth and the chocolate was just right, not too sweet as what usually happens when it comes to white chocolate and the raspberry gel gave it a perfect balance.

Wine choice: 2013 Nullo Mountain Late Harvest Riesling
