Hotel Centennial overlooks Sydney’s Centennial Parklands in Woollahra and was originally established to mark the centenary of the foundation of Australia in 1888.
Spanner Crab Taco – Devilled spices, ginger & curry leaf & Alpine Salmon Taco -Tartare, green chilli & Horseradish
We began our night with these small bite sized starter’s that were packed with flavour. The squid ink was used as a binder in the taco and worked perfectly with the raw salmon and the green chilli added a final zing but wasn’t overpowering.
One of the stars of the night, toothfish sustainably fished from 2000 metres below sea level in the subarctic cooked to perfection. It’s beautiful snow white flesh provided clean and sweet flavours. An absolute winner!
What struck us as we walked through the doors was the elegance of the restaurant, instantly you feel like you have been transported to New York. Renovated in 2014 the restaurant has emerged as a modern, sleek yet cosy venue.
Excellent atmosphere, able to hear ourselves talk and the detail of the design was evident, everything from the staff uniforms to the refreshing artwork was in perfect sync.
Rangers Valley Angus Beef Cottage Pie
A pleasant surprise! The dish came out and we thought that the Chef had forgotten the top layer of pastry, our ever attentive waiter Andrew noticed our bemusement and explained how it was a modern twist on an old classic. Still a very traditional winter dish with the meat tender and delicious. Interestingly it all went well together, although if it had a little more pastry it would have been superb.
The outer layer was crispy and golden with the chicken being perfectly tender and moist. The salad that went with it was incredibly creamy and delicious.
Roasted sprouts, Dates & Smoked bacon
What caught my eye during the menu selection was “dates & bacon”. This sweet and savoury combination was something different. I must say we were very impressed.
Seasonal Berry Pudding (lemon curd cream chantilly)
Beautiful presentation. Full of colour. A burst of tangy flavours if you love your citrus. If you prefer fruits, this is the desert!
Centennial Waffles with Butterscotch fudge ice cream
No wonder why this is renowned as the local’s favourite. Seriously one of the best waffles I’ve tried. It was so good I started laughing. Perfect for all you sweet tooths out there. The waffles were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The butterscotch caramel sauce was divine. A perfect way to end the night. Heaven.
