Down on Woolloomooloo wharf is Manta, an established restaurant and bar known for bringing the finest produce from both land and sea, creating an excellent Mediterranean influenced menu.

Manta Martini $19

Starting off the night with cocktails is always a must and there was no reservations about ordering the Manta’s signature cocktail. Made with crushed lychees and lemon grass syrup, shaken with belvedere vodka, lychee liquor and apple juice.

Summer Breeze $19

While I shed a tear for the long gone summer, cocktails like this remind me of what I love about a hot sunny day by the water. Made with a refreshing blend of fresh blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, shaken with cranberry juice, belvedere vodka, Chambord and watermelon liquor.

Raw tasting $24pp

Known for it’s uber fresh seafood dishes, we started our food journey with a raw tasting plate to sample the great sea fare Manta had to offer.

A fresh and zesty little mound of Hiramasa Kingfish Tartare, flavoured with spring onion and pickled radish then lightly dressed in an emulsion of citrus and wasabi.

Thin buttery cuts of Atlantic Scallop Ceviche covered in chilli, garlic, baby coriander and crispy eschallots.

The Ocean Trout Carpaccio finished off these delicious tasters with a great mix of subtle and strong flavours. The creaminess of the trout was brought out by the horseradish creme fraiche, while the white balsamic and herbs gave it a nice kick.

Seared Atlantic Scallops $28

More scallops but this time lightly seared and joined on the plate by a strong flavoured carrot and cumin puree. The scattering of green peas added a nice little burst of colour and sweetness to the savoury meatiness of the plump scallops.

Fried Southern Calamari $17

These crispy little rings of Fried Southern Calamari were a sensational little nosh being paired with a rich roasted black garlic aioli that was so good I had to stop myself from licking it off the plate.

Whole King Prawns $49

A simple yet very tasty dish of gigantic King Prawns grilled to perfection in a classic flavour combo of parsley, garlic and olive oil. Give it a good lick of lemon and your good to go!

Cone Bay Barramundi

Oven roasted so the top is crispy while keeping the flesh tender and juicy. I found the salad of heirloom tomatoes, spanish onion, basil and fried capers to be the perfect accompaniment.

Our sides were a fresh salad of rocket, parmesan, apple hazelnuts and white balsamic ($10.5) and the famous manta ‘angel’ chips with truffle oil and parmesan ($17.5)

Cacao Barry ‘ocoa’ Dark Chocolate Mousse, Salted Caramel Centre and Earl Grey Icecream $19

An absolutely fabulous desert. The dark chocolate mousse was rich in bitter sweet cacao with a liquid centre of salted caramel that eagerly oozes out. I found the earl grey ice cream a pretty interesting choice for this kind of dessert which paid off in the end.
