Nestled in the up and coming foodie hotspot of Rosebery is Milano Torino. A Northern Italian eatery and Vermouth bar with a focus on regional food from Piedmont. With a philosophy of ‘seasonal, organic and fresh’, Dario and his team strive to use only the best produce available on the market, including many goods imported directly from Italy.
Milano Torino – Americano
Milano Torino derives its name from a cocktail, first served in the 1860’s, made by equal parts Campari, the bitter liqueur from Milan (Milano) and Cinzano, the vermouth from Turin (Torino). Sampling this classic aperitif from the cocktail menu was the perfect start to the night.
A classic Italian cocktail made from a refreshing mix of pureed peach and prosecco, the light tingle of the bubbles really gets your taste buds going.
Home Made Foccacia $4
Soft and homey, the bread is baked fresh every day and is lightly flavoured only with a sprinkling of sea salt. This really allows you to appreciate the flavours of the bread itself.
‘Vitello Tonnato’ $ 17
A delicious dish hailing through tradition from the north of Italy. Thin slices of cooked veal are laid upon a full-flavoured puree of tuna and capers. The combo of the meat in the pungent and salty puree is enough to get your mouth watering.
Buckwheat Maltagliati with Duck Ragout $25
What an amazing pasta dish! As soon as it was placed on the table I was overwhelmed by the most insatiable aroma. I immediately dug into the velvety sheets of pasta which were lathered in a rich and buttery ragout sauce filled with a very generous amount of slow cooked tender duck.
Pork Fillet with Red Wine & Mustard Seed Sauce $27
The words ‘get some pork on your fork’ have resounded in my head all this summer so I decided to go for this lovely pork fillet. The meat was extremely tender, cutting like butter. I was actually surprised by this considering how lean the fillet was. I really enjoyed the red wine and mustard sauce, mopping every inch of it up with the pork and accompanying kipfler potatoes.
Pressed Lamb Shoulder $28
Another fantastic meat dish, the lamb is cooked overnight keeping it ridiculously tender and moist, then it’s pulled apart and pressed into a square mould. After setting its then able to be easily sliced and seared. Plated together in a lam jus with some lightly baked purple and yellow carrots and a creamy potato puree.
“Bonet” – Chocolate, Coffee & Amaretti Pudding
Last but not least was our fabulous dessert. This velvety smooth pudding had all the makings of a solid mocha. Dense in texture yet pleasantly light this beautifully decorated dessert was the perfect end to a fantastic night.
Milano Torino is a dining gem, providing an open and inviting atmosphere, fun and friendly staff and most importantly, delicious Italian food. Check it out for your next meal out!
