Garfish, Kirribilli

On the other side of the bridge sits Garfish, a fine dining experience with a sophisticated café feel. Garfish was opened in 2002 and over the years they have perfectly combined fine dining and seafood.

Garfish’s philosophy is to source the freshest fish from the daily fish market, you choose how you would like it prepared and your sides. There is also a selection of house favourites to choose from.

Whilst seated on the outdoor terrace, we perused our menus and set our eyes on the delicious fish on offer. We began with the Salt and Pepper squid, sided with a chilli, garlic, coriander and lime. A classier take on the fish and chips that you buy at the beach, the squid was crispy with a tangy dipping sauce.

Sitting on the outside deck, sipping crisp white wines, we were grateful for the breeze that cooled us on such a hot summers day. The special market menu changes everyday, dependent upon what is in season and is written on a chalkboard wall inside.

Our waiter left us with the wine, menu and the specials and it was time to deliberate.

South Australian Yellowfin Tuna, Morrocan spice with pearl cous cous, cherry tomatoes, chermoula and yoghurt.

No two mains were the same, as some choose grilled, spiced or fried. But who can go past their famous-with-the-locals Snapper Pie? Not me. Those who had ordered the market fish looked on with obvious food envy for the golden crust of the Snapper Pie.

Snapper Pie with roasted garlic, broccolini and soubise sauce

Generous chunks of Snapper in creamy soubise sauce, lay underneath the crispy golden pastry of the pie. The creamy white fish was so tasty that I was reluctant to let others taste the dish. It was obvious why the hostess boasted the Snapper Pie as a locals’ favourite.

At our table there were honourable mentions for each combination of fresh market fish and the sides.

With a breezy location, friendly and thorough service with the freshest fish Sydney can offer, Garfish is a great place to dine with out-of-towners and when you are looking to impress.
