The streets of Surry Hills are full of hidden gems and we are constantly on the lookout for them. One of our most recent gem’s is Orto Trading Co which is located on Waterloo Street.
Fresh Young Coconut
Mixed Berry Smoothie $7
If you’re on a health kick, or you’re just kidding yourself like me, try one of these sensational fruit smoothies. Made with mixed berries or banana (or both).
Carrot Cake Hotcakes – Toffee Pecans, Gingerbread, Carrot Curd, Mascarpone $18
As soon as I saw this on the menu my mind was made (and my stomach was growling). It’s not something I have seen or tried before at any restaurant so I didn’t know what to expect. This dish was served with two super thick and fluffy hotcakes which were decorated with cinnamon sugar and tasted (obviously) like carrot cake only so much better. On top of that, adding a sweet crunch, were shaved carrot, gingerbread crumbs and toffee pecans.
Hash – Birkshire Ham, Tomato, Avocado, Rocket, Lemon, Asparagus, Poached Egg $16
Hiding underneath the perfectly poached egg and Birkshire Ham was a devilishly crispy potato hash. This whole dish was a pleasure to consume, especially when everything is smothered in the runny egg yolk.
Espresso Martini $16.5
What, I can’t have a martini with breakfast?! It’s the holidays! Plus there’s coffee in it. So really I’m just having a latte with a little somethin’ somthin’ extra (vodka, dark rum, kahlua, vanilla).
The interior is quite spacious with a relaxed, simple feel, with exposed brick, wooden furnishings and beautiful fresh florals. Perfect for a lazy weekend brunch.
