This Japanese fusion café is situated in Inner Sydney, in a quiet end of Bourke St Surry Hills. Although the focus of the dining experience is on Japanese culture, the owners have cleverly managed to meld together both the Australian and Japanese dining experience, so you still experience the pleasures of Australian café culture.
Check out the interior which is natural bright and breezy, in a shade of enticing green! A highlight of Café Kentaro is that they specialize in matcha…and many of these dishes are super popular with customers.
The matcha cream puffs are particularly divine and filled with a delectable custard filling while the matcha lamingtons are a must have. Light and airy but packed full of flavour…I just can’t get enough of these awesome treats with the delicious combination of green tea powder and coconut!
The signature katsu, with its combination of pork fillet, Katsu cabbage, Japanese BBQ sauce and tangy mustard is also a firm favorite with many customers. The crispy pork is a perfect contrast to the tender meat and soft bread, and as the menu states, well worth the 15 minute wait.
Check out the Not So Mexican Tacos if you want something light to share (or keep to yourself – they’re delicious).
Do yourself a favour and take yourself to Café Kentaro this weekend for an experience that is uniquely different from the run of the mill cafés located close by. Don’t forget to arrive early to score these treats as they always sell out early!
