Have you visited Old City Kitchen & Bar? It’s a stunning Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant, located in Newtown.
The creators of Old City Kitchen & Bar were influenced by an ancient region called Levantine, which covers what is now known as Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine – the Mediterranean part of the Middle East. This has influenced the menu, providing recipes influenced by the region and also the interior which has a laid-back vibe.
Old City Kitchen & Bar offers a mix of foods – starting with hot or cold mezze dishes before moving on to share platters or mains. There’s also banquet options that will give you a good selection of the food available and would be a good option if you can’t decide what to have.
If you are having trouble deciding, the fried haloumi (made in-house) is a place to start, or the traditional hummus which comes with an attractive swirl of olive oil in the centre. Lamb Shawarma is a recommended signature main dish – slow cooked for 6 hours, it consists of shredded lamb marinated in spices and comes served with tahini sauce and pickles.
There’s also a selection of creative cocktails, and two dessert options – a rice pudding, or Knafeh which is three cheeses (ricotta, haloumi and mozzarella) melted and topped with semolina, sugar syrup and whipped cream.
Old City Kitchen & Bar offers dine in or take away options, with the take away menu offering share platters as well as wraps, perfect to eat on the run.
