L’Americano Espresso Bar is a hidden little gem, situated within the flagship store of Coco Republic, amongst the industrial/retail catchment of Alexandria.
Designed and opened last year, this chic little cafe is a cross between the Amalfi Coast and New York Italian Style – think the Godfather going on a holiday with a slight hipster twist.
All furnishings and accessories can be found in-store, which is a very clever try before you buy while providing this stylish cafe with a certain design edge with rich leather seats, gorgeous models of Italian speedboats and Campari and Pellegrino bottles bouncing light into the room .
The service is friendly, helpful, efficient and not intrusive. Just what I expect from restaurants and cafes, but something which many others fail to deliver.
The restaurant draws an eclectic crowd, from business lunches, designer types sipping espressos at their laptops to mums looking for a delicious and caffeine filled break with tables from the cafe spilling into the store itself.
Their beautiful dark parquet flooring is beautifully offset by great lighting and details.
L’Americano Signature Salad – Shredded cos, radicchio, fennel, feta, citrus fruit, mint, walnut, pancetta, cherry tomatoes and parmesan
Fennel, citrus and pancetta alone are a delicious match made in heaven and this salad did not disappoint. At times meaty & then other mouthfuls are bursts of freshness. A plate of moving flavours. Definitely more a well balanced meal than a side. I don’t think I have ever enjoyed a salad as much as this one. Sometimes sour, sometimes sweet, sometimes fresh and sometimes creamy…..it kept my tastebuds enchanted.
Ricotta, Seasonal Fruit, Honey and Walnuts – Fresh fruit served on housemade sweet vanilla ricotta drizzled with honey and topped with walnuts
Sweet creaminess. This dish reminded me of a spring incarnation of a warm winter crumble. This feels very decadent for a dish that isn’t as bad for you as it tastes. Great flavours in this simple yet delicious dish. Simplicity is an art form of the Italian chefs.
Orange Polenta Cake
Sweet and fresh icing sitting atop this nice little treat. Served with fresh fruit and an amaretto crumb. Perfect to have alongside your coffee of choice.
With its strong Italian heritage, this cafe is very serious about making great coffee such as espressos with gorgeous crema, organic hot chocolates and the song of continual steam emanating from their coffee machines.
This sweet, little spot had the natural soundtrack of the bustle of a busy Italian cafe, plates and glasses chinking, coffee machines steaming and the quiet chatter of content customers. It was a charming way to spend a lunch.
