Searching for good seafood?
Then look no further than The Herring Room. In fact, it’s a standout in the seafood restaurant department. Located just off Manly beach, The Herring Room is family owned and is also a sister restaurant to the much loved, closed-down Sardine Room in Potts Point.
The venue boasts a space inspired by the 1920’s with homey touches and brick walls surrounding groups of friends catching up over meals. What makes this restaurant so exciting is that they don’t just serve fish with a side of salad, they incorporate flavours from around the world to ensure your taste buds are being taken for a ride.
Red Cabbage Dolmades $18
We started off with these red cabbage dolmades. A modern twist on a traditional Greek dish, these beauties are filled with pickled herring and sit on a bed of hummus, pine nut and smoked paprika honey dressing.
Squid Ink & Egg Yolk Ravioli $18
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is the best ravioli in Sydney. Filled with a gorgeous hens yolk and doused with crab meat, lemon beurre blanc, salmon roe & parsley oil. This dish is simply perfection.
Moreton Bay Bugs 34
Exquisitely prepared by the chef, the meat in these bugs were so tender and juicy, seasoned simply with lemon juice, olive oil, garlic & parsley. With each bite you can see and taste the quality and freshness of the seafood.
Polenta Crusted Dory $36
What a fantastic way to crumb fish. The polenta crust makes this a textural dream. The polenta is golden and crisp, keeping in the moist and tender fish. The accompanying kumera, shallot & sweetcorn mash with caramelised banana & green tomato relish add a very unique flavour to the dish.
Pan Seared Grain Fed Sirloin $36
Moreish, tender and full of flavour, the sirloin was cooked to pink perfection with steamed cauliflower, asparagus, sweet butter, fresh horseradish and a very unique umeboshi puree.
Seared Atlantic Salmon $36
A delicious piece of fish, with a delightfully crispy skin sitting on a bed of minted pea puree with beetroot gnocchi, crispy pancetta and kumera crisps. The combo of soft fish and crispy kumera made this dish an absolute winner.
Baklava Baked Cheesecake
A winner in the dessert category, the almond shortbread & vanilla ice cream complement the crispy layer and sweet flavours. This is a real treat for anyone and combines my two favourite desserts!
Deconstructed carrot cake $14
A phenomenal end to the meal with this dessert. Made with orange and earl grey tea cake, mandarin, sour cream granita, carrot sorbet, caramelised white chocolate and a nice drizzle of grand mariner, even after all the food we smashed we were still able to demolish this beautiful dish.
