Ribs. Burgers. Beer.
Nothing completes a good day like beautiful weather and a feast to behold at Meat District Co. We’ve been told that they have the best ribs around town, so we just had to find that out for ourselves. A successor to its original LA restaurant, this meat haven can only surprise you with what’s in store.
Walking into the restaurant we were in awe of the very rustic and modern interior. We were taken upstairs where the balcony has a stunning view of the harbour. We were greeted by Kai and Camillio who are the managers of the restaurant. Do not be deceived by their good looks for they are experts in making super awesome cocktails.
We tried the cocktail of the month “Not Tonight Honey” which was Vanilla Vodka with fresh muddled limes and grapefruit juice with a hint of honey. The cocktail was very refreshing and the tanginess of the grapefruit and limes really reminds you of something you’d have on the shores of Honolulu.
To add on to the summer vibes that we were feeling, we decided to try out their compressed, grilled watermelon salad with sumac, goat cheese and hazelnut. I’m a big sucker for watermelon salads and their version had an amazing burst of juice and the goat cheese gave a nice contrast to the salad.
The Sweet Potato chips served with paprika aioli was very well seasoned and yummy. It was a massive challenge to photograph it while controlling my hunger.
We can’t ignore the truffle fries, which consisted of truffle salt, truffle parmesan and truffle aioli. The balanced intensity of the truffle flavor in the dish was what took the fries to another level. I swear, I could watch Netflix all day while digging into these fries.
Now let’s get down to the real business. Or should I say, meat business.
Let’s start with the 200g Medallion. This beauty is the premium cut of all steaks and it is worth every penny (and calories too). The combination of tenderness and smokiness together resulted in sudden rushes of adrenaline (as a result of a foodgasm). It’s no surprise that the quality of meat was amazing since they only source their meat from Australia’s most sustainable producers.
We also ordered the 240g kangaroo chargrilled served rare with truffle mash potato along with some Jack Daniels sauce. Personally, we really are big fans of kangaroo meat. Meat District Co. really did it justice by being able to keep the meat nice and moist despite it having a very low fat content. Plus truffle and Jack Daniels are a match made in heaven.
My favorite part of the meal was no doubt their signature Ribs & Ribs Combo which is half a rack of beef ribs and half a rack of pork ribs. They were just perfect. It had the right amount of juiciness and was nicely lathered with BBQ sauce. The Garden salad and the ribs made a really savory pairing.
Better yet, unleash your adventure side and do try their Australian Gourmet Crocodile Burger with grilled zucchini, lettuce and beetroot relish. It was very exquisite! If you want a safer option, you can have their Vegetarian Burger which has root vegetables, oats, almonds, sunflower & pumpkin seeds in a patty with mushrooms, mixed greens & hommus. It was super divine and we would highly recommend it.
Finally, to finish off the feast, we opted for their savory chocolate mousse on a soft sponge bed, served with strawberry ice cream and a chocolate wafer. The richness in the chocolate mousse went harmoniously with the strawberry cake that just made me crave it more.
With a diverse range of high-grade meats cooked on the grill and other amazing dishes, it’s a great place to have a good time and enjoy a stunning view of the harbour. I’ll definitely be back for the ribs !
