Prepare your taste buds for an adventure and be transported to a log cabin in the woods at the newly opened Salmon and Bear in Newtown.
After a successful first year at Zetland, the team at Salmon and Bear have brought their passion for fresh and delicious seafood to the bustling streets of Newtown and we can’t be more excited for it to bring a grizzly touch to the flourishing food scene in the area.
With a stag head décor greeting you at the entrance and retro posters plastering the walls, stepping into Salmon and Bear feels like you’ve stumbled across a hunter’s cabin in the woods and were invited in for dinner.
Grizzly plate – Charcoal grilled Barramundi with lemon herb butter sauce and sweet potato fries.
Sustainably sourced and grilled in a Mibrasa oven imported from Spain, the Barramundi fillet was deliciously tender with a smokiness that added a new depth to the flavour. When paired with hand-cut and lightly salted sweet potato fries, the two made a heavenly combo that was difficult to resist.
Sweetcorn with miso butter, roasted in a Mibrasa oven
Smokey, sweet and crunchy – the sweetcorn was our second side for the Grizzly Plate and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice.
Left: Crispy prawn and corn taco, Middle: Sticky soy glazed salmon taco, Right: Crispy fish taco
Everyone has been taco-ing about the seafood tacos here at Salmon and Bear so we had to try them! Each taco is served in a soft tortilla shell with cabbage, salsa verde, pickled pink onions, coriander, lime, and sriracha mayo that complements the crispiness of the seafood.
Originating from Hawaii, poké bowls consist of cubed raw seafood marinated in soy sauce served on a bed of rice. Here at Salmon and Bear they’ve stepped it up a notch and added corn salsa and avocado to spice up the mix. And it is absolutely delicious – the fragrant Jasmine rice together with the silky, melt-in-your-mouth salmon cubes and refreshing salsa makes a tasty yet healthy meal that won’t leave you feeling too guilty.
Forget Poké balls, we are all about the Poké bowls here at Salmon and Bear!
Bear treats by Gelato Messina
You know you’re in for a treat when the dessert menu features customised ice cream by Gelato Messina.
Front: Bear – chocolate gelato cookie sandwich, Back: Salmon – strawberry gelato paddle pop dipped in white chocolate
As expected, Gelato Messina never disappoints – the chocolate gelato is irresistibly smooth as is the strawberry gelato in the ‘Salmon’ paddle pop.
With a diverse menu that emphasises on taste and freshness, Salmon and Bear is a must for a quick seafood fix.
We will certainly be back for more of those irresistible sweet potato fries!
