Big Bunz are relatively new to the flourishing burger scene in Sydney. But what a welcome addition they are! “Enjoy Real Food” is the motto that owners Frank and Melina go by. Fresh produce, top quality ingredients, and nearly everything is housemade. Now that’s real food!
With a modern but comfortable and welcoming fitout, there are tables for large groups and single seating along the wall. Eat in or take out, the menu is perfectly designed for either. Pick your bun (milk, brioche, or even gluten free!), and you then have a good selection of beef, chicken, fish and vegetarian options to choose from. Be sure to upsize!
Naturally, our choice of burgers had to include chicken. And not just any chicken, but a southern fried chicken (they do have grilled chicken options for the health conscious out there!), cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and ranch sauce. Perfectly fried crunchy chicken breast, breaded in-house, juicy and absolutely delicious.
For our beef choice, we went for the “feast”. Housemade beef patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and feast sauce. Default is well-done but surprisingly, still very juicy and delicious. Be sure to state your preference up front. All their sauces are housemade and many of them feature in the burgers. The feast sauce is amazing, creamy and a little tangy. Elevates the burger to that next level!
Our pick of the day must go to the fish burger. Again, filleted and breaded in-house, you can really taste the difference in this housemade fish burger. There was a fabulous crunch to the batter and the fish was flaky and moist. It’s not often we choose a fish burger as a favourite as we’re beef and chicken fiends, but this fish was one of the best we’ve had in town!
And no burger feed is complete without the mandatory fries and onion rings! And these were truly delicious. The fries are real fresh potatoes (not frozen!!), hand cut in-house and fried as is. The genuine potato taste came shining through and we couldn’t stop reaching for more! The onion rings were crunchy crunchy crunchy on the outside and the onions were sweet on the inside. If you can handle some heat, be sure to grab some of their housemade jalapeno mayo which is great for dipping the chips and onion rings into.
By this stage, we’d stopped counting the calories (who are we kidding – we never count!), so we wrapped up with a vanilla sundae, topped with chocolate sauce and marshmallows. The perfect end to a fabulous burger feast. And the start of our epic food coma!
Big Bunz pride themselves in providing top quality, genuine food. You’ll not find a single frozen or store bought patty here! And with a potential liquor license looming in the future, Big Bunz make the ultimate destination for friday night drinks or that boozy sunday lunch! Next time you’re looking for a delicious burger feed, drive on down to Matraville. Your taste buds will thank you for it!
