The Wild Nest cafe sits in the heart of Alexandria, on bustling McEvoy Street. With plenty of street parking and buses nearby, it’s ideally located for breakfast or lunch as you plough through the many outlets in the area.
There are tables for small groups, communal tables and even a comfortable lounge. There are a couple of tables outside for the alfresco experience. The cafe has a very relaxed and comfortable ambiance, and the staff make you feel very welcome.
They have your typical range of coffees, teas, and juices. We grabbed a couple of freshly squeezed fruit juices to start our breakfast. We took the healthy route, but for those with a sweet tooth, they have frappes and shakes too.
We ordered one of their most popular dishes, the Beef Rendang sandwich. A delicious fusion of beef rendang, coupled with coleslaw, sandwiched between a brioche bun. This was absolutely delicious and an absolute must order for a savoury breakfast or lunch!
We also tried the Indonesian sandwich. The grilled chicken was so juicy and delicious, especially with the crunch and freshness of the cucumbers and carrots. We also spotted nasi goreng on the menu, which we plan to return for!
Dish of the day was definitely the black sesame french toast. Super soft bread with crusty edges, that delicious black sesame ice cream and crumble, and the caramelised banana. The perfect combination of sweet and savoury!
The Wild Nest cafe bring you a balanced fusion between Asian and western cuisine. With the prospect of opening for dinner at some stage in the future, we can only imagine the deliciousness that may be coming our way during dinner too! Next time you’re out in this neck of the woods, we highly recommend a brekky or lunch pit stop at the Wild Nest Cafe. And do yourself a favour and order the black sesame french toast!
