In the heart of World Square, by the famous bull sculpture, is a little piece of Italy. On one side, the newly launched Margherita Vinoteca and Co, the slightly upmarket restaurant and bar. On the other side, you have Margherita and Co, the casual bistro style eatery. Margherita and Co is where we spent a delightful evening, feasting on some great Italian classics!
There is seating along the windows, perfect for that #tableforone. Further inside, there are a handful of tables that comfortably seat both small and large groups. There is also a large takeaway window, ideal for that pizza on the go when you’re rushing back to the office.
There’s a nice selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to quench your thirst. We started with a couple of reds, sitting at the very tastefully decorated seats along the outside window. A lovely spot where you can sit and people watch as everyone rushes home for the day.
We started our meal by nibbling on some arancini balls. Mushrooms, fontina, black truffle and sardella. Creamy delicious rice centres and that beautiful crunch. So delicious. And that amazing hit of truffle you get is so good!
Our token salad was the prawn and pumpkin which comes with quinoa, rosemary, ricotta, white balsamic and honey dressing. Our token salad is usually selected to ease the guilt but we concluded that we would easily order this as a delicious and hearty lunch just on it’s own! A must order!!
There is a good selection of pizzas to choose from. We opted with the mushroom pizza for something a little different (hey, you can’t eat meat lovers every day!) Porcini mushrooms, garlic, parsley, mozzarella, parmesan and bechamel. A thin chewy crust and fabulous cheesy mushroom toppings. And a good hit of garlic too! Seriously good pizza!!!
We then topped up our carb intake with a gnocci dish. Prawns, peas, green chilli and dill. Soft pillowy mounds of potato with a very generous portion of prawns. So delicious. We were so glad we opted for gnocci instead of two pizzas. In fact, from 5pm onwards, they have a dinner deal (any pizza + pasta + share plate). Definitely recommend trying this if you can, so you can get a little bit of everything!
And what’s an Italian meal without Italian ice-cream eh! They have a great selection of gelato flavours, handpicked by their own chefs, and provided by Darling Gelato. Or if you’re more interested in caffeinated desserts, you can always try their affogato instead.
We went with the exotic balsamic fig and dulce de leche and toasted coconut, and the more classic hazelnut and pistachio. Soooooooo creamy and delicious! Especially the fig which was our favourite. And the perfect wrap to a great Italian dinner.
Margherita and Co is a fantastic addition to World Square. The perfect place to drop into at lunch time if you work in the area. And the convenience of their takeaway window is pure brilliance! Even better is the ambience inside – perfect for a few drinks after work with a few shared pizzas. Now that’s the way I want to end my work week!
