In the foodie world they say that everything The Grounds touch turns to gold, and to me it couldn’t be more true and more deserved. Everything they do, they do well, with their iconic decor and sense of style, every little thing is thought out and executed with perfection. So when we heard that The Potting Shed had a new menu we couldn’t resist the opportunity to check it out.
The Girl from Ipanema $18
As always we started off with a nice bevvy – this one, a nice fruity mix of gin, Cointreau, fresh mango, lime and sugar. Instantly we were transported to a tropical beach of flavour and fun. Delish!
Duck Liver Parfait $19
A delicious little starter served with warm sourdough and house pickles. The richness of this parfait is unbelievable, like butter only better. The silky soft texture was just perfect spread on the warm bread melting the parfait just a little. The sharp pickles were a great side to combat that richness balancing everything out nicely.
Braised Goat Ribs $17
I’ve said this many times, but goat is a very underrated meat. Just as good, if not better than lamb, the fattiness of the ribs makes them mouth-wateringly good, simply falling off the bone and into your mouth.
Senorita, I Feel For You $17
Next up on the sip list was this classy little minx of a drink. The sharp fresh flavours of the mint, lime and cucumber match perfectly with the Calle 23 Tequila. Sure to tingle south of the border.
Braised Beef Cheek Rolls $16 (3 pc)
In their iconic bamboo charcoal buns, the beef cheek is the new kid on the block, with it’s soft moreish taste contrasting with the crunch of the golden onion ring to create pure bliss. Give me more!
Hot Smoked Trout Tacos $19
I was surprised at how much I liked this, the trout has a beautiful smokey flavour. The taco shell is interesting, holding everything together well, with crunch and without falling apart. The finishing of trout caviar adds a burst of salty goodness to each bite.
Rhubarb Daiquiri $17
Quite an elegant drink, and very pretty! Made with two types of rum, aperol, citrus, sugar, egg whites and rhubarb bitters.
The Shed Burger $23
Ground brisket, onion rings, house sauce, pickles and melted cheese make an absolutely killer burger! Seriously just take a look at this thing of pure beauty, the meat is so juicy smothered in cheese. Errrmaagawwwd…
Game Pie $28
Another surprise, the mixture of spiced venison and wild board is absolutely delicious tucked away in the pastry casing. Mixed with leek and mushrooms this is definitely not one to ignore.
Wild Mushroom Pappadelle $28
Favourite dish of the night and one I’ll definitely be ordering again. The silky strands of pasta were thick and comforting, coated in a rich creamy mushroom and burnt butter sauce, the piece de resistance is the soft-boiled egg sitting on top that ties everything together in one gloriously rich package.
As you can see The Potting Shed have taken things up a notch with their new and improved menu. Always a pleasure for these two repeat customers!
