With winter here in all its freezing glory there’s nothing like some fun and zesty Mexican to warm up the blood and bring some spice into your life. Since it’s been open, Mejico has been hugely popular for it’s modern and delicious take on Mexican food.
We started with Mejico’s signature dish, a fresh and zesty guacamole smashed table-side for that extra touch of freshness the combo of chilli, lime, onion and coriander gave a depth of flavour that readied our waiting taste buds for the meal to come.
A great selection from the raw bar, the beetroot and tequila cure added a sweet woodiness, while the pineapple and habanero granita adds a great zing to the mix.
Another great and fresh fish dish, the delicate flavour of the snapper is complemented by the fresh flavours of ginger, habanero and pomegranate. A very scrumptious dish indeed.
Slow Roasted Pork Tacos $12
OMG, how good these were! The soft pork filling was scrumptious. I particularly loved the chilli caramel salsa and the crowning pork scratching, a nice touch that adds a delicious crunch.
Sticky, Glazed Lamb Ribs $28
Easily my favourite dish of the night, the meat literally falls off the bone, like zero effort needed! The flavour of the ribs is so moreish with this sticky caramelisation. The accompanying crunchy cabbage is an awesome way to bring some fresh crunch into this rich meaty dish.
6 Hour Slow Roasted Beef Brisket $32
While it may not look that appealing, holy crap this was good! The meat literally melts in your mouth, as does the mouth watering mac and cheese that comes with it.
This also included soft tortillas and crunchy salad, making a perfect little wrap.
With the biggest selection of tequila in the southern hemisphere, you simply must order a nice drop, and if you’re unsure what to choose Mejico have an ingenious little device to help you choose based on your flavour, intensity and price specifications.
Finally we ended with a much loved Mexican dessert. The churros were different from any I have had before. The crunchy golden exterior held an almost liquid centre, and went hand in hand with the spiced chocolate dip.
What a fantastic meal we had Mejico, with great food, great service and a buzzing vibe, there’s no confusion as to why this place is always pumping.
