Opening it’s doors earlier this year, Umii Modern Izakaya is fast becoming one of the best Japanese restaurant’s in Sydney, with a menu that totally blew us away! Located in the ever trendy Drummoyne, we were very eager to give it a try.
These spicy edemame were genuinely delicious with a sweet, salty, chilli sauce that was finger licking good. The perfect little pre-feast snack.
Well I must say, the team at Umii started will all guns blazing. These delicate scampi tails were served raw with shaved foie gras and truffle oil. To say the taste and texture was like the richest butter would be an understatement. I want to marry this dish.
Sashimi Moriawase (Assorted) 12PCS $34
Sashimi lovers assemble!! What a beautifully vibrant dish, full of everything I love about Japanese food. This beautiful dish is adorned with incredibly fresh slices of Saikyou Salmon, Tuna, Hiramasa Kingfish, NZ Snapper, Scampi and Pacific Oysters.
As an extra little treat we enjoyed these deliciously sweet mini-cocktails that while small packed a HUUUUUGGGGGGGGE punch. Beautiful but deadly, these were far too easy to down and (embarrassingly) left me a little bit rowdy….
Fresh Ocean on Spoons $21
They say that in Japanese culture the presentation of the food is just as important as the taste. This has never been more evident than in this dish, and let me tell you it tastes as good as it looks. Each spoon was unique and delicious with flavour combinations that put a smile on everyone’s face.
Umii No Ozara Moriawase $39
A great nigiri taster of Saikyou Salmon, Tuna, Hiramasa Kingfish, Scallop, Eel, King Prawn and NZ Snapper. Honestly, I’ve never seen presentation as beautiful as this.
Tempura Bug Tails
These plump tails were a delicious treat, lightly battered and fried we couldn’t help but pop them straight into our eager mouths. Sensational!
Grilled Lobster Tail with Yakiniku Sauce
A delightful special that was decadent to say the least. The sweet lobster meat went sensationally with the caramelised figs. The crispy crab bits added a nice texture.
Surume Ika No Karaage $13
A tasty little dish that had a great crunch followed by a soft tender finish. The Crispy baby calamari came with silky black squid ink aioli. Yum!
Lamb Cutlets $22
Served in a Japanese traditional charcoal pot these juicy pieces of lamb were everything you could have imagined. Smoky with a brilliant flavour!
Wagyu Yaki Cha Soba $21
An interesting dish and one much loved by everyone on the table. Tender Wagyu beef were draped over a silky bed of green tea noodles with tamago, scallion and aonori.
Matcha Roll $12
On to the sweet stuff, and boy were they good! Starting off with soft sponge coiled around a gloriously creamy green tea gelato. This was both comforting and refreshing. An absolute delight.
Smash Pavlova Gelato $12
A great little dessert to finish off the night, the pav was sweet and creamy with a nice tartness from the berries.
What a fantastic experience this was!
I honestly was not expecting this calibur of food, but boy was I wrong! Incredibly fresh, incredible quality, incredibly tasty. I can not speak more highly of this place, we will most definitely be returning.
