Toki Italian Inspired is a tiny restaurant located next-door to ARQ night club. Literally a hidden gem in Darlinghust, it’s owned and run by Thai Chef Toki (who has more than 20 years of experience cooking Traditional Thai cuisine and 15 years experience cooking contemporary Italian cuisine) and his wife Cherry.
Toki’s Special $24
Toki’s Special is a delicious squid ink spaghetti with pork neck confit, garlic, chilli, calamari strips, calamari floss, cherry tomatoes PLUS Toki’s grandma’s spicy coriander-lime-chilli pesto. Back in the day, Toki’s grandma worked in the Thai Royal Palace kitchen, so expect heat and pure awesomeness!
Have a look at that 63 degree egg! Combine that with truffle mushroom’s and a rich truffle sauce and you have a dish so creamy and irresistible!
Rocket Salad (Small $5/Large $8)
Want something light and refreshing? Then you cant go past this salad. A mix of rocket leaves, fresh pear, walnut, parmesan cheese and white balsamic dressing.
Pan-Roasted Mussels (Small $18/Large $24)
Or how about some seafood? Try these fresh mussels cooked in a tomato sauce with garlic confit, chilli, white wine, fregola (a type of pasta from Sardinia, similar to couscous) and served with garlic bread.
These light snacks were perfect. Sautéed mushroom, garlic confit, Parmesan cheese, porcini powder and truffle oil sits on garlic bread. Yum!
Toki and Cherry, who wanted to challenge themselves and try something different by cooking Italian food with a Thai twist are on to something brilliant here. As we sit, we notice regulars and locals stopping by to say “hello” to Cherry as they walk past. It seems their great service, warm and homey feel and their killer spreads keep the locals coming back for more.
