Have you ever just wanted to pack up and run off to a Greek Island? I know I have. Sitting in the sun while drinking frappes and munching on the best Mediterranean food around?
Sounds pretty fantastic. As we’ve recently found out, you don’t have to go too far. Sitting in the beautiful ocean side suburb of Watsons Bay, Nautica Café Bar Resto gives you all of this and more.
Fresh Green Juice & Frappe
Nothing better than sitting in the sun while sipping a refreshing beverage. The green juice was packed full of healthy fruits and veggies, while the Frappe, a favourite Greek beverage of mine was the perfect way to settle into our environment and really appreciate the excellent fare to come.
Dip Platter $12
We started the meal with a gorgeous selection of dips included Taramasalata, Tzatziki & Fava with a bowl of Kalamata olives and pita bread. A great sharer while waiting for mains or the perfect accompaniment to some sun soaked beverages.
Haloumi Chips & Mustard Aioli $8.50
What delicious little treats and easily the best ‘chips’ I’ve ever had. Perfect for sharing (or not), these golden nuggets of silky cheese are best eaten as soon as they hit the table. Smothered in the mustard aioli they get ten times better.
Delish steaming balls of spiced, juicy meat covered in a splendidly fresh Napoletana sauce. The meatballs come out steaming hot, with a nice chilli kick for extra pizzazz. Definitely ask for extra pita to mop up every last bit of the rich tomato sauce.
Grilled Octopus $14.50
Still to this day I cannot fathom how the talented chefs managed to get such a soft and tender octopus dish #WhatsYourSecret? Easily the best I’ve had, each mouthful simply melts away into a charred, caramelized mouthful. A light squeeze of lemon balances the flavour well and adds a freshness to the palate.
Nautica Salad $15
A beautiful bowl for fresh flavours and colours. This salad was seriously too nice to eat. Perfect to accompany meals or a perfect meal in itself. Packed full of baby spinach, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, baby beetroot, Spanish onion and sultans, this baby is finished with a good splash of house dressing, then topped with crumbled feta and crispy sweet potato. Divine!
Lamb Sovlakia with Greek Salad $21
What I had been waiting for! The meaty skewers were packed full of tender juicy meat, cooked to perfection. The accompanying salad added a lovely fresh bite to the rich meat. Make sure to spread that tzatziki thick!
On to dessert and boy were we spoilt! Easily my favourite Greek dessert, Bougatsa consists of a sweet custard like filling wrapped in golden layers of flaky phyllo pastry. A-mazing!
If you’ve never tried these indulgent little Greek doughnut balls you need to get here now. Golden and crisp on the outside and fluffy and light on the inside, these dessert mouthfuls are smothered in honey and cinnamon then finished with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Baklava ice cream $10
Our final dish was this thing of beauty. Creamy ice cream is layered on top of a baklava bottom that is like magic in the mouth! Honestly this was sensational and the perfect end to a perfect weekend!
All in all a phenomenal meal in a great location. I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed Nautica! A fantastic location, warm and friendly service and most importantly delicious food ensure this place will see many return vistis from us!
