Newly opened in Potts Point, and tucked behind the infamous Coca-Cola signage of Kings Cross, we were delighted to be one of the first few diners, our taste buds at at the mercy of Chef, Tom Kime.
After running a successful pop up restaurant in London, (reaching the top 3% on Trivago), Tom’s latest creation has finally arrived in Sydney. His dream was to bring Levantine street food to a modern audience. Levantine cuisine includes classic ingredients such as Zatar, harrisa and yogurt typical of the regions in Cyprus, Turkey, Lebanon and Israel.
Four In One Dips including Hommos, Fadi (zucchini), Pancar (beetroots) and spicy roasted red pepper
We kicked off with the ‘Four In One’ dips with freshly baked Greek pita bread. It was tasty and a great appetiser to start with.
Seared Albacore Tuna
This is a winning dish – the Seared Albacore Tuna. The roasted red peppers and cherry tomatoes burst with flavour and the Tuna was cooked to perfection.
The Roasted Aubergines were served with tomato, cumin and chilli relish, herb yoghurt and spiced almonds – everything on this plate was polished off by yours truly.
Spiced Roasted Beetroot
A beautifully laid Spiced Roasted Beetroot was just as delightful, dressed in cardamon yoghurt. The spiced almonds were roasted to a perfect crisp setting of the earthy and sweet flavours of the beetroot.
The Lamb Meatballs, were soaked in sweet and sour cherry and cranberry sauce. The fragrant karat spices lifted the cucumber yoghurt to the next level.
The delightful Roast Duck Leg Salad was served with coriander, mint and cumin roasted butternut pumpkin.
We finished of the night with desserts and yes, they were divine. The Spiced Hot Chocolate Pudding had a lovely soft centre, accompanied with delicious Cranberry biscotti.
The deconstructed Baklava came with a honeycomb ice cream wth roast nut brittle and burnt honey caramel.
Ceru is an awesome place to dine in with family and friends. The modern take on vibrant Mediterranean street food was meant to be shared and enjoyed together. The staff are warm and friendly.
It seems Tom’s dream has certainly been realised, a fresh tasty menu and a beautifully designed restaurant makes for a pleasant and comforting environment that captures both the ethos and character of the cuisine.
