The Royal Hotel Bar & Grill, Paddington

With the hot weekends upon us, lazy (and boozy) lunching is an absolute must. One place I am destined to be frequenting this summer is the deservingly popular The Royal Hotel in Paddington. Recently welcoming a new team of Chefs who have created a new and improved food offering catering to the time strapped worker, those who like to laze and graze (thats me!) and also for larger groups.

Seared Scallops $17

Recommended as the staff favourite, there was no questions as to why after taking a bite. The buttery texture of this pump gem went hand in hand with the rich miso butter and creamy parsnip puree.

Baked Camembert $18

Somebody pinch me! Have I died and gone to cheese heaven? This whole baked Camembert is as moreishly delicious as it looks. One quick slice of the knife sends a heavenly wave of melted cheese oozing out into the bed of dried fruits, nut crumble and lavosh. I really appreciated the fresh figs and fig jam accompaniment as the honey-like sweetness of both really balance out the richness of the cheese.

Passionfruit Rose Punch $50

St Hallets Rose, Cointreau, Passionfruit and Lime Syrup, Passionfruits, Limes, Orange segments and Mint. Serves Four.

With delicious food comes delicious drinks! Quite fond of the odd beverage or 2 (or 4 #DontJudgeMe), this punch bowl was the perfect thirst quencher for the scorching day outside. Mixed with tart and zesty flavours it went hand in hand with our meal.

Kingfish Carpaccio $19

Sticking to fresh and summery menu options, we went for this divine kingfish carpaccio. Incredibly fresh and with a nice raw bite to it, the combination of the peppery watercress, salty kapers, crunchy croutons and hot wasabi avocado made for an excellent dish.

Wagyu Beef Burger $19

If you’re after something a little heartier don’t go past this mountain of a burger. Filled with a classic choice of dijon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheddar and a succulent wagyu pattie all held together by a soft airy bun. If that wasn’t enough it also comes with the Paddo’s incredible waffle fries.

Butternut Pumpkin Ravioli $21

If you want to take a slightly classier option the Pumpkin Ravioli is the one for you. The large delicate parcels are lathered in an aromatic sage butter sauce and accompanied by a scattering of sharp and pungent blue cheese. The butternut puree does a good job of balancing out the strong blue while the nuts add a nice crunch to the mix.

We had an excellent time at The Royal Hotel Paddington. With a buzzing atmosphere, friendly staff and genuinely delicious food and drink, what more could you ask for on a hot summers day?
