Staring as Grizabella is Australias golden girl, DELTA GOODREM.
“I am so excited to be making my musical theatre debut as Grizabella in CATS, one of the most iconic roles. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s work is extraordinary and his music speaks to people all around the world. I am so honoured to have the opportunity to share Andrew’s music and Grizabella with a whole new generation of Australian audiences. I grew up admiring Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ musicals, so it is with great honour I am getting to join the CATS’ legacy,” she said.
CATS is one of the longest-running musicals worldwide, viewed by more than 73 million people in over 300 cities around the world and the winner of Olivier and Tony awards for Best Musical.
Due to overwhelming public demand and a 12 year absence, CATS is making a comeback. Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is alive with highly entertaining feline characters and wonderful witty verse, as the Jellicle Cats come out to play in a larger-than-life junkyard on the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new life.
Delta really shone in her roll of the shabby (yet stunning) outcast Grizabella, entrancing the audience with her magnificent rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit song ‘Memory’ (…take a seat Barbara). A big favourite was the dazzling performance of the ‘Magical Mr. Mistoffelees’, an exciting and intricate dance solo that certainly put a spell over the thrilled crowd.
All in all a fabulous, brilliant and spectacular musical full of engaging song and dance numbers intertwined in a fascinating story. Get in quick, CATS will only be around for a limited time only, you DON”T want to miss out!
