The Wooden Whisk in St Leonard’s is the intersection for those on their way to work caught in the morning rush, those on their second coffee run for the day, locals who call this café home and general breakfast lovers in search of a decent feed. Despite the standard morning coffee rush, head barista Shaun takes the time to sit down with me and explain why he loves The Wooden Whisk and as I listen to his stories, the answer is simple. It’s the people and it has always been about the people. Shaun gushes as he tells me how great it is working at The Wooden Whisk because the staff feels like family, as do the regular customers.
The Wooden Whisk provides ample indoor and outdoor seating for customers and the café oozes an undeniably rustic, homely feel and with the addition of its friendly service. The Wooden Whisk becomes a hard place to peel yourself away from.

Spiced soy chai and Green supreme smoothie
Perfectly brewed, The Wooden Whisks’ spiced chai is a sure thing on this cold winter morning and provides a good balance of spicy cinnamon and cardamom undertones with the added sweetness of honey. And the ideal pick me up for gym junkies, the bleary eyed and health conscious alike, the Green Supreme Smoothie is the perfect blend of apple juice, banana, spirulina, strawberry, yoghurt, honey and milk.

Wooden Whisk Bircher Muesli
Ordering bircher muesli can be hit and miss as not all cafes get the balance of oats, milk, fresh and dried fruit right. The Wooden Whisk on the other hand delivers a robust and generous bircher muesli. This fruity, wholesome blend of coconut milk based bircher muesli is generously topped with fresh grated apple, strawberries, dried figs, apricots, dates, toasted almonds and chia seeds.

Breakfast grazing board
The Breakfast Grazing Board contains everything that we know and love about breakfast: perfectly poached eggs, crispy double smoked bacon, a generous serving of avocado, a delightful pot of cherry tomatoes with basil and feta, finished with a side of tomato chutney.

The team at The Wooden Whisk have never tried to hide the fact that they are not trying to reinvent the wheel and aren’t bothered by the latest food fad (here’s looking at you, extreme milkshakes) and it is this ethos that makes this café a true gem that will surely outlast many others.

This place looks and sounds delicious! I’ll definitely have to check it out soon. I’m glad they nailed the bircher – it’s one of my favourite breakfast options 🙂
