Barrio Cellar, Sydney CBD


Barrio Cellar is located underground in Martin Place away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is Sydney CBD. The ambience is a great combination of after-work and casual drinks with stools and booths for larger groups.



To get the night started, we asked for the sweetest poison on the menu – a concoction of aged reposado, licor 43, Rhubarb Puree, agave, lemon topped with mint. I thoroughly enjoyed it throughout the meal.


Guacamole and Chips

A classic Mexican starter to get our bellies going. I’ve noticed the trend of adding fresh pomegranate gems to guacamole popping up everywhere and I’ve got to say I’m loving that fresh burst of sweet flavour.


I’ve recently discovered ceviche and fell it love with its tangy yet sweet punch, so naturally I had to order it. The fish was cut differently from its usual diced cubes, which kind of threw me, but the flavour of the avocado with lemon juice and tomatoes set me back on track and was thoroughly enjoyable.



I’ve heard amazing things about the burgers at Barrio Cellar so it would have been criminal not to order one. The fillings were right up my alley with a tangy spicy kick from the pickled jalapeño, chimmichurri mayo, chipotle mustard, cheese and red onion. The hand cut chips on the side were also great.


Tacos – Hongo (Mushroom)

The mushroom taco would have been my favourite taco for the night. It’s confit portobello mushroom and corn, wrapped in grilled mozzarella (yes you read correctly) and queso couldn’t have been better.


Carne Asada (Skirt Steak)

The skirt steak taco was on the simple side with its serving of fresh tomato and mayo not taking away from the juicy and succulent flavour of the meat.


Churro Sandwich

If this is a new hybrid joining Sydney’s food scene, I am more than happy to welcome it. The sweet crunchy exterior of the churros was fun to eat and complemented the ice cream so well. I’m not even a dessert person but If I would come back for anything, it would be this. GET IN MY BELLY!!!!
