As the heat of summer fades a glimmer of hope remains at this beach side beauty. Open since 2009, Manly Wine has become the go-to destination for locals looking for everything from their morning takeaway coffee fix to a long lunch spot with friends, to a place for laid-back dinners. No matter what season it is, Manly Wine makes you feel like its Summer all year round with their wide array of fresh fare from both earth and sea.
Lazy Sundays can’t start without a cocktail or 4, and these were absolutely delicious. From a fresh and floral Giggly Rose to the every popular pick me up Wattle Espresso Martini, Manly Wine cater their booze to all flavour palates.
Oysters $39 dozen
With booze comes these freshly shucked pacific oysters. Laying on a bed of ice they come fresh with a side of champagne vinaigrette, lemon or Tabasco.
Seared yellow fin tuna, edamame, chia, wakame & miso $18
Next up was a share plate of lightly seared yellow fin tuna pieces. Nice and thick, the contrast between the raw and cooked meat was fantastic. The chia coating and scattering of edamame added a lovely fresh crunch.
Black Kingfish, rose spritzer, bitter leaves, angry radishes, ginger
A zingy little ceviche, the fish was firm and fresh with a nice burst of peppery flavour from the radish. The dressing was light and tasty however I would have liked a little more acid to it.
Hot & Smashed Spanner Crab $40
Many Wine hosts Crab Shack Sundays every Sunday bringing a fantastic menu of ‘Steamed & Chilled’ and ‘Hot & Smashed’ crab options. We chose the spanner crab which was fantastic, flash fried in a mix of chorizo, salt, pepper and black eyed peas. Chuck in some butter corn on the cob and you got some finger licking good grub!
Hot & Smashed Mud Crab $80
If the spanner crab was fantastic then this mofo was phenomenal! Look at the size of that claw! I love mud crab because it is full of meat. Chunks waiting to be pulled out and devoured. Served up in a spicy chipotle and garlic butter sauce, this big bugger certainly stole the show filling our bellies up nice and good.
Apple pie ice cream, boozy apples, cinnamon ice cream, almonds, vanilla custard $12
Fortunately, we always have enough room for dessert and this take on an apple pie was pretty tasty. The gingerbread biscuit sandwiched the apple pie ice cream while sitting on a bed of booze stewed apple and custard.
Chocolate fudge brownie, burnt toffee ice cream, hazelnut brittle $13
What a beautiful sight. This chunky brick of brownie had my inner fat mess screaming for release. Too good to share, the brownie was moist and chocked full of crunchy macadamia bits. Topped with a creamy toffee ice cream to cut the richness.
Parked right near the beach, Many Wine is open seven days from 6:30am-late. It is the perfect beach-side dining experience and embodies a beach-to-bar philosophy – sandy feet welcome!
