The wonderful people from Chef Up, a culinary trio taking Sydney by storm, were organising their first Cooking class & Food tasting event at the New Hampton Bar and Bistro and were kind enough to invite us along for the fun.
The cooking areas were evenly spaced, each person having the opportunity to cook with a partner. All the utensils were provided and laid out and we were given aprons and chef hats. It was fun and exciting!

Onion tart with pancetta
While we were cooking, we were given different types of foods to try. These were homemade by the 3 chefs talented chefs, Tibo, Xavier and Mat.
My fellow chefs-in-training
What I loved most about all the dishes we cooked were the simplicity of it all. It was not easy nor hard to cook. But it had all the authentic flavours to it. The tart was quite fragile, but the toppings like the confit onions and goat cheese were fantastic. Tomatoes, seasoned ricotta mousse & chives were fun and easy to make. And these stuffed tomatoes could not get anymore authentic. A mouthful of flavour.
This Leek Fondue & Goat Cheese Quiche was another in between snack whilst cooking.
Quinoa & Goats Cheese Maki
Made using Quinoa, Goat cheese, Carrot, Seasoning sauce and Chives. This was my first time making and eating quinoa sushi. I must say it was very creative and very healthy.
Praline is basically sugar coated almonds, coloured red. It is then cooked and reduced in cream. My hat goes off to this creation. I loved this tart. It was not overly sweet and had a great crunchiness to it. Even though we didn’t cook this, it is a must try. A great way to finish the night.
A mixture of caramelised apple, crumble, vanilla creme fouettee. This was the highlight of the meal.
This experience and night was one to remember. It wasn’t just about learning how to cook, but learning about different types of ingredients. It was fun, exciting, new, creative and delicious. I highly recommend Chef Up to everyone out there who are wanting something more than just a meal, but an experience to enjoy. Hats off to Tibo, Xavier and Mat.
