Cyren Restaurant and Bar, Darling Harbour

After Sydney’s impressive display of what horrific weather truly means (RIP Umbrella, you served me well), it was a relief to dine under sunny skies by Darling Harbour. Cyren offers an impressive venue by the water easily transitioning from day to night.

Pan Seared Scallops

I love my scallops so I couldn’t be happier to see a platter of them, served in the shell with garlic butter. The garlic butter was great for kicking the scallop to the next notch.

DSC_0324 Chargrilled Lamb Cutlets

Lovely cutlets of chargrilled lamb with the slightly fatty texture on a bed of rocket salad and homemade tzatziki. An extremely enjoyable starter, great for sharing with friends and family.

Greek Salad

The salads served were great choices as sides for the seafood. The Greek salad was served with kalamata olives, marinated feta, cucumber, tomato, lettuce and finished with oregano. The creaminess of the oregano fetta was great for cutting through the fried seafood.

Beetroot Salad

I’ve recently grown fond of beetroot so I was excited to see this baby served up! Roasted beetroot with Binnorie dairy marinated fetta and candied walnut salad. The texture and flavour of the candied walnut was a great addition to the salad.

DSC_0338 Hot and Cold Seafood Platters

Chilled King prawns, marinated mussels, Sydney Rock Oysters served with wholemeal bread fingers and dil creme frame, Tasmanian smoked salmon, crispy fried tempura prawns in the shell, soft shell crab, panko and black sesame crumbed calamari. Complimented with lemon and a selection of condiments.

Holy Crap. This was an impressive array of seafood ready for me to devour. My eyes were running back and forth around the platter, I didn’t even know where to start! The oysters were extra creamy! The soft shell crab had just the right amount of crunch.

Cyren’s Signature Seafood Platter

DSC_0346Cooked King Prawns served chilled, lobster cooked served chilled, rock oysters, local mussels with tomato and chilli salsa, smoked salmon, tempura prawn cutlets, fried market fish fillets, calamari crumbled in panko and black sesame seeds, cocktail sauce, tartare sauce, fresh seasonal fruit and chips.

Holy Crap 2.0. The big brother of the Hot and Cold Platter had joined the game and took everything to the next level. An extremely glorious display of every seafood lover’s dream. The prawns were firm and fresh. The mussels worked well with the chilli salsa, giving it a great spicy kick.

DSC_0351Giant Pork Ribs

They were not kidding when they call this stuff giant pork ribs. Lovely flavoursome chunks of meat that were falling off the bone and straight onto my bone.

Dessert Platter to Share

Another impressive platter filled with chocolate fondant, bailey’s brûlée, vanilla pannacotta, sticky date pudding and fresh seasonal fruit and sorbet.

One of the stand outs was the Bailey’s brûlée for it’s noticeable but not overpowering flavour of baileys liquor. The other was the splendid sticky date pudding that was still warm, popular amongst the crowd.

Cyren is located at the Harbourside Venue, a short walk from Town Hall Station or you can catch a light rail there (if you’re lazy like me.) Cyren’s substantial venue is great for friends and family to dine by the water.
