Crepes, coffee and cocktails. Have you ever heard of a better combo?!
Avila Crêpes, located in the heart of Bondi offers a delicious selection of traditional French crêpes and classic cocktails.
On the left is Venezuelan born Alejandro Jara, owner of Black and White Waiters and Avila Crepes. His concept is simple, he has three loves in life, known as the three C’s. Crêpes, coffee and cocktails.
Twisted Mule $16
Mixologist Istvan Orosz’s has designed an impressive drinks menu, such as this Twisted Mule. A generous mix of cucumber infused organic square one vodka and elderflower liqueurs with fragrant kaffire lime leaves, double teamed by lemongrass and special home made ginger beer.
Negroni Blanc $19
An interesting spin on a Florence classic, Avila’s version has a summery feel with equal measures of illegal mezcal joven and regal rouge bianco, a dash of liqueur de pamplemousse, fresh lemon juice and finished with a nice spritz of grapefruit seltzer.
Now onto those delicious crepes..
Ocean Trout, capers, lemon, spinach, avocado and béchamel $19
A great combo of flavours here. The trout was smokey and went really well with the creamy avocado and bechamel. I’m a sucker for capers and was pretty happy with the massive caper berries providing a sharp and salty bite.
Prosciutto, tomato, avocado, parmesan and olive oil $19
Like a beautiful Italian salad on a crepe, the fresh flavours of these simple ingredients really highlighted the distinct and unique taste of the buckwheat in the crepe. What I was most impressed with is how crispy and delicate the crepe base was. Super traditional, the base provides a nice platform for all the exciting flavour combos.
Mix berries, Grand Marnier, ice cream $15
On to the sweet stuff with a bit of a theatrics! This flaming beauty added a little extra pizzazz to the dish.
After the flambé fun we tucked in to find the crepe bursting with berry goodness that had been lightly caramilised by the fire.
Apple, cinnamon, ice cream salted caramel $15
Another great dessert reminiscent of a tasty apple pie. The salted caramel kept things interesting and unique, while the star of the show was the lightly seared apple pieces scattered on the plate.
Belgian chocolate, candied hazelnuts, ice cream $14
We definitely couldn’t go past a chocolate option and this Belgian beauty didnt let us down. Smothered with a generous helping of candied walnuts, so good it was hard to share this bad boy with each of us literally fighting over the biggest half.
The Cold Driptini
Our sweets were matched with these adorable pints of The Cold Driptini. A cold drip single origin coffee cocktail made with Toissant Liqueur De Café, vanilla-infused Flor De Cana rum and topped with cacao and orange dust. Seriously good!
This former Bondi aquarium has been revamped into a romantic French diner with white wood booth seating, distressed mirrors and bright lettering out front.
A cosy and inviting space perfect for a romantic dinner, sweet treat or a boozy, fun filled night.
