I’m a carnivore. I like meat. LOVE meat in fact. So it’s safe to say a trip to LPs Quality Meats in Chippendale was about as exciting for me as a 5 year old going to Disneyland (just FYI I also love Disneyland).
Walking in you are greeted by a long section of share tables with a wood laden open kitchen. The bright red word ‘BUTCHER’ hovers on top giving a clear message: “We have meat”.
Giving the menu a good perusing we decided to go for the ‘Chef’s Menu’ dining option at $65 per person.
Bowl of Pickles
A great assortment of vinegary carrots, fennel, onion and pickles. The sharp sweet taste of the vinegar mixed with the mustard seeds definitely prepped our taste buds for what was to come.
Selection of House Cured Meats
Next arrived a tray of cold cuts. The belly ham and coppa were the clear favourites of our table. You could really taste the quality of these meats from the intense flavours. Accompanied by olives, a splodge of mustard and pickled peppers.
Smoked Salmon with Creme Fresh, Dill and Capers
The salmon is so perfect and it’s as smooth as the creme fresh its laying on top of. The subtle smokey flavour doesn’t take away from the salmons own unique taste, which is complimented by the salty capers and fragrant dill.
Beetroot, Hazelnut & Horseradish
Not really a big fan of beetroot but I gave it a go anyway. The beetroot was sweet and earthy which was completely contrasted by the pungent kick you get from the horseradish. The hazelnuts gave a pleasant crunch for texture.
A fat sausage that looks just about ready to pop. The boudin is made by combining pork meat, blood and herbs into a sausage.
Smoked Meat Platter
Seeing this beauty placed on our table really did make me think I had died and gone to heaven. 15 hour BBQ Beef Short Rib, BBQ Chicken with Paprika & Dill Rub, 6 hour Smoked Lamb Belly, Porchetta with Fennel, Chilli & Garlic and a Sausage De Jour to top it all off. Literally a mountain of the most incredible tasting meats. These are also accompanied by a side of creamy Mash Potato and Gravy, Iceberg and Pecorino Salad and Corn on the Cob.
Coconut Sorbet and Raspberry Granita
A great palate cleanser, the granita is super refreshing while the coconut sorbet hiding underneath brings a tropical surprise that’s nice and creamy.
Maple Syrup Tart
Now don’t get me wrong. I loved, loved, loved the meats. Really I did. But this dessert was my favourite part of the night. The cake base was soft and fluffy, then it was given a richness by being soaked with maple syrup. Topped off with some vanilla ice cream, this is going down as one of my favourite desserts. Ever!
